Nigerian bishop Wilfred Anagbe recently sat down with CNA in Washington, D.C., to discuss the ongoing persecution and killings of Catholics in his country, which has grown so much in recent years that, he said, “it has become a daily occurrence.”
Bishop Anagbe’s Diocese of Makurdi in Nigeria’s Benue State has been among the communities hit hardest by the growing violent persecution.
This past Good Friday, dozens were killed when Muslim gunmen raided an elementary school building in the village of Ngban, which serves as a shelter for about 100 displaced Christian farmers and their families.
The April 7 attack left 43 people dead and more than 40 injured.
“If you see the video, you would just weep,” Bishop Anagbe said. “They came and they slaughtered all of them.”
“And [despite] all this happening there have been no arrests. The government is not prepared to take action about this,” he added.
“Nigeria is not like the U.S. where you have state police,” Anagbe explained. “If anything happens in Benue State … you need a call from the headquarters [in the capital] to let the police look into it. So, if they have not been given any instruction they will not go.”
“So, in this situation, we have been caged, we have nothing to do,” the bishop lamented.
A Church Under Siege
Bishop Anagbe has been the bishop of Makurdi since 2015. During his time as bishop, Anagbe said he has seen a “full-blown realization of the Islamic agenda.”
Though the government has made claims that the situation has improved, groups such as the radical nomadic Fulani herdsmen and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a branch of ISIS, have only increased their attacks on Christians.
With Fulani tribesmen increasingly encroaching on Christian territory, not even regions that are majority......

Killings by religion of peace?
The world really is full of $hit holes, even though that statement was made out as unPC, insensitive, maybe even ethnocentric...
When you bring a religion and more advanced culture to a place full of savages, the savage doesn’t think that these people working together peacefully will create wealth, technology, a rich and deep culture. Nope, the savage just sees weakness in a culture that stresses peace, love your neighbor, not being judgmental and forgiveness.
I’m not even picking on Africans per day, because that was true with the Vikings also. They saw Christians as easy prey.
Cancer!
And what are the Catholics doing about it?
A long time ago they actually defended their religion and territories with armed crusaders.
Six replies! Looks like most Freepers don’t give a hoot. Lord have mercy.

Which is one reason I advocate for an African Pope.
RIP
That would be real swift. All Africa understands is whitey took all their resources, all their people and whitey is the root of their oppression.
They also understand tribalism as its still the backbone of Africa. Politically they never evolved past tribalism. Not a one of them know British history and the evolution of Christianity that made America and the advanced G7 nations. Kinda like the blacks of America and the BLM.
Communism and tribalism walk hand in hand, that’s something Africans can understand. That’s the portal for the hate propaganda. Also, the church in Africa is largely big business, it’s a money machine. Thusly it’s prone to corruption which the people accept. They know that the chief gets everything, the people get none.
I’ve met many pastors in Africa, not one of them can link Christianity to the west’s success. Just like Barack HUSSEIN Obama.
In the case of Islam in particular, yes.
Oppressive, backward, violent, expansionist, rejecting every basic liberal western society idea, it’s emphasis is on total submission which is what “Islam” means, submission.
But ever since Obama it’s no longer a threat.
In 1994, under Clinton, the FBI stopped collection on metrics regards homosexuality and pedophilia. If you don’t even collect the metrics, there’s no link, right?
Circa 2009, under Obama, we stopped collecting metrics on Islamic inspired/financed/trained terrorism. We made it into a crime and came up with new ideas like home grown, lone wolf, all in an attempt to divert attention away from a problem and make it into a simple policing matter. The DOJ went so far that they purged their training and records for any sort of material which may show a systemic problem. Intel folks which did not bow down to the new political narrative and leadership were coerced and ultimately removed.
The problem persists of course. Islam is a problem because there is a doctrinal issue. The folks blowing things up, cutting off heads, lighting someone on fire are actually following the script!
There are many decent Muslims, some embracing a more civilized and modern world view, but it is them that are diverging from the doctrine, who are seen as heretics by those more devout. There is some progress, as evidenced in Dubai... But Islam remains a threat to any place that isn’t entirely Muslim and where you have Muslims. ***Islam is the only religion, where the more devout someone is, the greater a risk they pose to any non-Muslim.***
A fair comparison, and this sounds absurd but is real, is that if David Koresh and the branch divisions had continued to grow in numbers. Mohammed simply plagiarized ideas from the Jews and Christians, added his own self indulgences, and created a new religion. A murderer, pedophile, polygamist, slave trader, liar and thief, this simple illiterate man created a religion, so what do you expect? In the beginning, having copied the Jews and Christians he talked about peace and love, but after expanding and meeting resistance at Medina, he took Islam in a violent and oppressive direction, and sadly the newer scriptures supercede the older ones.
If the branch divisions had grown to 1.3 billion people, commanding over much of the wolds landmass and vital resources, would we have make them into anything different than what they were? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Koresh This may as well be the wiki entry for Mohammed. The life and actions of Mohammed are well documented and the Koran is available for anyone to read. It says very clearly what to do with those that are an apostate, are non Muslims, etc. How do you accommodate this religion with liberal western society, democracy, a republic? Where you may have ideas that run contrary to the teachings of Islam?
Look at Germany. You have a liberal society with a Christian and Germanic culture. Now you inject people that see alcohol as wrong, eating pork is wrong, nudity is wrong, feminism is wrong, teaching and allowing other religions and all being equally acceptable is wrong, freedom of speech if it questions any of the Islamic tenets is wrong... All you create is a massive security problem where Germany spends billions every year trying to contain this threat.
Germany isn’t going to make this into a religious feud, after all the government is secular and pluralistic. But even though they won’t come out and define the threats for what it is, Germany and their equivalent to the FBI, their equivalent of the CIA (BND), their local police, state police, border services probably devout an enormous amount of resources dealing with this threat. We are no different.
