Having read M. Scott Peck's "People of the Lie," the essence of evil is self-worship, i.e. acute narcissism. It's not that these people "think the world revolves around them" so much as all their lives they have accepted as an underlying assumption that the world does, in fact, revolve around them. Their own personal world anyway... and that's the only one that matters to them.
The key to breaking the dominance of the evil heart is to break the ingrained assumption of self-worship... and that is very difficult indeed.

I for one greatly appreciate the articles Spirited Irish finds and posts to a blog. Every one of them posted are relevant to the problems we are currently facing and offer a Christian perspective for dealing with those problems. I look forward to reading them each morning and many times work them into my morning prayers and “discussion” with my Lord Jesus Christ.
