n a message to the May 28 Festa del Voto in Sassari - celebrated since 1943 when a vigil to Our Lady of Grace protected Sassari while other Sardinian cities were bombed - Francis mentions the Mediatrix of all graces which in December 2019 he called "foolishness."
He added his inevitable buzzwords ("pastoral conversion", "spiritual renewal", "synodality") and then threw a tantrum, “Do not give in to the temptation to remain anchored in a nostalgic popular piety that consists only of external rites or in a sterile traditionalism that is rather the expression of the dead faith of the living.”
For Francis, there is at currently a great danger of "going backwards” that "leads us to think according to the logic: it has always been done this way.”
This was obviously a reference to a rampant Vatican II nostalgia that insists on liturgical forms that have failed for more than half a century.

Far from sterile; I find it beautiful and uplifting. My faith has grown in amazing ways since I started attending the TLM. My daughter-in-law (a convert to the Faith) says the same thing.
The past can’t be good if you want souls to go to hell...Francis has his master and it is not Jesus
Traditional piety is not nostalgic. It transcends generations and is Eternal.
Felt banners and “Let There Be Peace on Earth” (with lyrics updated every few years) would be nostalgic, if anyone really liked them.
“Francis mentions the Mediatrix of all graces which in December 2019 he called “foolishness”.”
He said declaring it a Marian Dogma was foolishness: https://cruxnow.com/vatican/2019/12/pope-calls-idea-of-declaring-mary-co-redemptrix-foolishness
There are reasons to think Pope Francis does not support the dogma. What he says in this article is not one of them.
Here is a more likely example: https://angelusnews.com/faith/once-again-pope-francis-says-mary-is-not-the-co-redemptrix/
I am so unbelievably tired of this meanspirited attitude towards Tradition, and I don’t even go to a Latin Mass!
And apparently the Pope is not paying attention, because Tradition is what is rejuvenating the Church. Where do our vocations come from? In the US, from Latin Mass communities and then very reverent OF Mass dioceses.
The new-fangled liberal communities? *Nothing.*
Sterile indeed.
Still a lot better than sterile Marxism and paganism.
Bergoglio's mission is to destroy the Church per his masters (Satan) instructions.
Curious that he would say “sterile.” Most Traditionally inclined people I know are from and/or have large families.
It seems to me that modernist are promoting sterility with their population controlling agendas.
Tradition is what connects us to the past. It reminds us that the moral issues that we face in life are the same ones that they faced in the middle ages. That human nature does not change. That there is good and evil in the world, the same as there has been for the last thousand years. There are eternal truths to be presented, and one of the ways to do that is to remind people that there are some things that do not change. Example, the mass that they are attending is the same one that people were attending hundreds of years ago. Some things, some truths, do not change. (I know this is a bit of a repetitive run-on, but I didn’t have time to polish it. Off to work.)
