Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 11
Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer
11 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
2 He said to them, “When you pray, say:
“‘Father,[a]
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.[b]
3 Give us each day our daily bread.
4 Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.[c]
And lead us not into temptation.[d]’”
5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity[e] he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[f] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
Blessed Are You, Oh LORD,
Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are Righteous and Just,
And You Alone Are The One True God.
How Wonderful Are Your Precepts,
How Precious Is Your WORD,
How Eternal and Sure Are Your Promises!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

It was time for the Scheduled maintenance on my 2009 Pontiac Vibe (the BEST car I ever owned myself), and I knew that the Service Department was always jammed. It was imperative that I keep to the Maintenance Schedule to keep the Warranty. I knew that I had to get there very early to be first in line.
The sun was rising as I headed out, and, as the garage door opened to let the customers in, I was the first in line. The person who was second in line, a woman in a headscarf, looked unhappy that I had gotten in before her. Oh well, the "Early Bird", as they say, gets the first slot.
We both let off our cars and headed for the Customer Waiting Area, where Coffee and Donuts awaited us.
The woman glowered at me and said:
"I WOULD HAVE BEEN FIRST BUT I HAD TO MAKE MY PRAYERS!"
Uh, OK. Did she expect me to give up my spot because of that? I smiled and said, "I was able to pray while I was driving here. I just didn't close my eyes...", and then beamed a big smile. She glared at me and turned her back. Oh Well. I knew that praying in Islam involves a whole series of postures and motions that go along with a memorized sequence of prayers. So there is no way this can be done while driving. My take on it was "Whatever floats your boat, but don't complain about it, because then you are drilling holes in MY boat." It bothered me that she expected me to be so impressed by her religion being the cause of her tardiness, that, I would have run back into the garage yelling:
"WAIT! SHE'S A VERY PIOUS HOLY PERSON! DO HER CAR FIRST!!!!"
Sorry, Lady, it doesn't work that way.
This weird little incident got me to thinking about Prayer.
The Gospels tell us a lot about Jesus praying. The Word states how He did normal Jewish Prayers, such as the Blessings over Food and Wine, and Scripture Prayers such as the singing of Psalms and Hymns. He quotes the Quintessential Jewish Prayer from Deuteronomy called "The Shemah". But the Gospels also tell us of hours spent alone, communing with His Father in Heaven. This must have puzzled the disciples. How was Jesus praying then? What was He saying? Did He have a book to go by, or a memorized sequence? Was He reciting pre-approved prayers, or was He just letting Himself "Livestream" to God? Finally, they asked Him to teach them how to pray, just as John the Baptist had taught disciples.
It is at this point that Luke records for us another version of The Lord's Prayer, which was introduced during The Sermon on the Mount, as told in Matthew.
The versions are the same, but different. Here are some contrasts.
The version in Matthew was taught to a huge crowd of believers and non-believers. The version in Luke was taught to a small group of disciples.
The version in Matthew was PUBLIC, and the version in Luke was PRIVATE.
The version in Matthew has six petitions, while the version in Luke contains five.
The version in Matthew speaks of debts, which imply sins against society, while Luke speaks of sins, which imply things that separate us from God.
The word "Trespasses" covers both debts and sins, so that is the word I tend to say when I pray The Lord's Prayer.
The similarities and the differences make this a model for prayer, rather than a recitation. Sometimes, I spend a lot of time on "Hallowed Be Thy Name", because my heart is swelling with Praise and Wonder at the Awesomeness of Our God. Sometimes I focus on Forgiving Others, because that, in particular, is a stumbling block for me, especially if the offense is continuous and unresolved.
The point is, of course, is that Jesus was teaching His disciples to PRAY, not teaching them how to say PRAYERS.
That way you can pray without ceasing, whether it's Sunrise, Noon, Sunset, or Driving your car.
Just Don't Close Your Eyes while driving!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 126
A Song of Ascents.
1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,*
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then it was said among the nations,
‘The Lord has done great things for them.’
3 The Lord has done great things for us,
and we rejoiced.
4 Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like the watercourses in the Negeb.
5 May those who sow in tears
reap with shouts of joy.
6 Those who go out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves.
