Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 9
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand
10 When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, 11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing.
12 Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.”
13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.”
They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” 14 (About five thousand men were there.)
But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

Our Father,
Who Art In Heaven,
How Blessed and Glorious is Your Holy Name!
You Are Wonderful,
Almighty and All Knowing,
Heaven and Earth Sing of Your Glory!
There is No Place Too Deep Or Dark, Lord,
No Prison on Earth,
Or Under it,
Or Even Within The Dark Secret Places
of The Human Heart,
That You Can Not Reach.
Your Depth and Profundity are Unsearchable,
Your Fountains Of Mercy Reach beyond Any Created Place or Thing.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

As those of you who have been with this thread for many years know, I teach music. When I lived in Florida, I coordinated two recitals a year, involving hundreds of children, 300 pounds of sound equipment, a portable piano, guitar and bass amplifiers, and food and beverages for the party afterward. It also included printing programs, awards, prizes for the kids, certificates, and invitations. And...I did it all myself. Although the parents brought the food and beverages, I had to make sure that they brought different items so that we wouldn't end up with a buffet table adorned with ten plates of chips and dip. Along with all that, there was always a fair amount of what we call in the music business: "BAND DRAMA". That was a combinations of Performance Anxiety, Stage Fright, Parents wanting me to change the order of the program, and a fair amount of hissy fits over imagined slights. Nevertheless, recital season was the high point of my year.
When I moved, I gave away or sold all my equipment because I thought I was retiring from teaching. That didn't last long. I soon got a lot of new students, and, yesterday, we had a recital.
There were only three families involved, five students, but lots of instruments and types of music. At the beginning, I started micromanaging every thing, but, one of the Mom's called me aside and said:
"Let us handle the food, the piano, the music stands. You just get the kids ready."
Well, that was a relief. My sister came with me, brought her sound system, and would accompany the kids who played Rock Music on her Cahone (Box Drum). She had a gig later that afternoon and could only stay till three, and I saw the time ticking away. The Rock Guitarist hadn't even gone on yet, and it was after 2:30 already!
I made an announcement that the program that I had so carefully assembled and printed out was being scrapped, and the Rock Guitarist was going on NOW, accompanied by me on bass and Sis on Cahone.
We did the set, and it was awesome. Just as we finished, my sister's son pulled up and spirited her away to her gig all the way in Quincy which was over 30 miles away. I finished the newly reordered recital, and made sure everybody got their program in, and then it was time for the food. I prepared myself to go in to find a table full of chips and dips, because I had not been "in charge".
What greeted me was a long dining room table groaning with BBQ Steak Tips and Chicken, a pyramid of exotic roll-up sandwiches, potato and macaroni salads, piles of fresh fruit, and, of course, chips and dips. There were only 18 people there, and there was enough food for 50. Not only that, but as well as beverages for the kids, there was wine and other adult beverages for the grown ups. The kids went out to play basketball, while the parents and I had a nice party. Then we all had ice cream. I had two helpings (Naughty me!). The dads helped me pack up all the sound equipment and put it all in my car. I was too tired to drive to Quincy to see my sister, but I'm sure she did a great job.
I have learned that people who micromanage things to the point of absurdity (been there, done that!), are actually showing anxiety that is born of mistrust. Either the person doesn't trust anybody else to do the job correctly, or even worse, doesn't trust God to work things out. Sometimes, the situation looks completely impossible, and we feel that our mistrust is perfectly justified. After all, look at the FACTS! But sometimes facts can get in the way of Faith. And faith is most powerful when it is in opposition to Facts.
It was a Fact that there were 5000 people listening to Jesus.
It was a Fact that they had not eaten.
It was a Fact that they were miles away from the nearest market.
It was a Fact that feeding a crowd that size would cost a ridiculous amount of money.
It was a Fact that the provisions on hand were woefully inadequate.
If those hadn't been the Facts, there would have been no miracle.
Liberal Scholars, who can't stand actual miracles, have speculated that The Feeding of the 5000 had been a miracle of sharing rather than of God's Provision. But that would not explain the baskets of leftovers. God's Provision is overwhelmingly more abundant than anything we could micromanage ourselves.

Psalm 52
To the leader. A Maskil of David, when Doeg the Edomite came to Saul and said to him, ‘David has come to the house of Ahimelech.’
1 Why do you boast, O mighty one,
of mischief done against the godly?*
All day long 2you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor,
you worker of treachery.
3 You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking the truth.
Selah
4 You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.
5 But God will break you down for ever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
Selah
6 The righteous will see, and fear,
and will laugh at the evildoer,* saying,
7 ‘See the one who would not take
refuge in God,
but trusted in abundant riches,
and sought refuge in wealth!’*
8 But I am like a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
for ever and ever.
9 I will thank you for ever,
because of what you have done.
In the presence of the faithful
I will proclaim* your name, for it is good.

Good points here. (Seen that especially in bad bosses.)
