Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 8

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman

40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.

As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.

45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.

When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”

46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”

47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”

53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
How Blessed and Hallowed is Your Most Wonderful and Holy Name!
You Alone are Worthy To Be Praised and Worshiped,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
The Creator, Sustainer, and Destroyer of All Things.
Abba Father, There is So Much Evil in our World!
Every Day we hear another story of how the wicked plot together
Against You, or against the people who love You.
Every Day, Another leak,
Another lie,
Another revelation of duplicity,
Of plots and schemes.
Expose them to the Light, Oh LORD!
For their wickedness can flourish only under the cover of darkness.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

As I was praying about what to write to you today, Tippy-Who-Must-Not-Be-Ignored began pestering me. As she climbed on my leg, I realized that her nails needed trimming. (This is a BIG Project.)

"Don't bother me now, Tippy. I need to get this Thread out!" I scolded.

With a sigh, I got out of my comfy chair to walk her, and noticed that the laundry had piled up. Setting the leash aside, I put the laundry in the washer, and realized that I had run out of detergent. No worries. I have a new bottle right here. Oh. It's CONCENTRATE. I have to cut it with water. No problem. I'll just fill half of the old bottle with concentrate and then top off both bottles with water. Voila! Now I had two bottles of detergent. OK...Laundry's in and the washer turned on. Where did the dog go? Oh...I took my last pills this morning. Time to refill the dispenser so I will have all my pills laid out for next week. Here we are...all set. Now where's that dog? Ah...waiting patiently by the door. OK, out we go. Oh...no WONDER you were anxious, Tippy! Poor baby! Come on back in now. (I will have to find out what caused that problem and maybe get a different brand of kibble. I need to do that anyway, and Today's the day I take Sis to the Nursing Home. There is a Pet Smart nearby. Also a Home Depot, which is good because I need to plant some annuals around my house...Inspection is NEXT WEEK. Also I need to get some clamps so the kids' sheet music won't fly around in Tomorrow's outdoor piano recital. Oh yeah, that means got to load the PA and amplifiers into my car!

Now. Where was I? Oh yes. The Thread.

The incidents in Today's Reading are told in all three of the Synoptic Gospels with little variation. As Jesus had become famous in the area, people came to Him for everything, even asking him to settle family disputes. On top of that, there were always smart-alecks and wise-guys in the crowd attempting to get Him to say something against Caesar, the Law, or the Temple. Then there were the important things, like genuine requests for healing and deliverance. Of course, to every person, his or her OWN need is the most important one.

Jairus, a Synagogue Superintendent, has a very sick little daughter who is about to die. His request is most urgent. But then there is the woman who has had an issue of blood for twelve straight years. making her ceremonially unclean and unfit for human company. She has not neglected this problem, but has sought every remedy, spending everything she had on doctors, to no effect. To her, the problem was bigger than anyone else's.

Jesus stops what He is doing, and heals her. Meanwhile, perhaps because of this delay, the little girl succumbs to her illness and dies. Then Jesus reaches her and raises her from the dead.

Luke tells this story a little bit differently than Matthew and Mark, probably because he is a doctor himself. He says that "Nobody could heal her.." rather than "She spent everything she had on doctors...". Could it be that he didn't want to disparage others in his profession? He also notes that Jesus calls the woman "Daughter". This is an extremely affectionate and unique way of talking to an adult woman who is a total stranger. To Jesus, the woman was not an "Interruption" at all.

When we look at the Gospel of John and read about the raising of Lazarus, we will see Jesus delayed again when he is informed of His friend's illness. The delays in healing both Jairus's Daughter and Lazarus were so that an even GREATER Miracle could occur.

The most important task is the one you are doing at the moment. Now, Tippy, get over here! I gotta clip those toenails!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen. May all the leaders on the 7 mountains of influence in Israel receive enlightenment and conviction of the Holy Spirit. Grant them the precious gift of grace to be saved.

Good point about “interruptions” which are divine appointments.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 35

Of David.

1 Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me;
fight against those who fight against me!
2 Take hold of shield and buckler,
and rise up to help me!
3 Draw the spear and javelin
against my pursuers;
say to my soul,
‘I am your salvation.’

4 Let them be put to shame and dishonour
who seek after my life.
Let them be turned back and confounded
who devise evil against me.
5 Let them be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them on.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

7 For without cause they hid their net* for me;
without cause they dug a pit* for my life.
8 Let ruin come on them unawares.
And let the net that they hid ensnare them;
let them fall in it—to their ruin.

9 Then my soul shall rejoice in the Lord,
exulting in his deliverance.
10 All my bones shall say,
‘O Lord, who is like you?
You deliver the weak
from those too strong for them,
the weak and needy from those who despoil them.’

11 Malicious witnesses rise up;
they ask me about things I do not know.
12 They repay me evil for good;
my soul is forlorn.
13 But as for me, when they were sick,
I wore sackcloth;
I afflicted myself with fasting.
I prayed with head bowed* on my bosom,
14 as though I grieved for a friend or a brother;
I went about as one who laments for a mother,
bowed down and in mourning.

15 But at my stumbling they gathered in glee,
they gathered together against me;
ruffians whom I did not know
tore at me without ceasing;
16 they impiously mocked more and more,*
gnashing at me with their teeth.

17 How long, O Lord, will you look on?
Rescue me from their ravages,
my life from the lions!
18 Then I will thank you in the great congregation;
in the mighty throng I will praise you.

19 Do not let my treacherous enemies rejoice over me,
or those who hate me without cause wink the eye.
20 For they do not speak peace,
but they conceive deceitful words
against those who are quiet in the land.
21 They open wide their mouths against me;
they say, ‘Aha, Aha,
our eyes have seen it.’

22 You have seen, O Lord; do not be silent!
O Lord, do not be far from me!
23 Wake up! Bestir yourself for my defence,
for my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 Vindicate me, O Lord, my God,
according to your righteousness,
and do not let them rejoice over me.
25 Do not let them say to themselves,
‘Aha, we have our heart’s desire.’
Do not let them say, ‘We have swallowed you* up.’

26 Let all those who rejoice at my calamity
be put to shame and confusion;
let those who exalt themselves against me
be clothed with shame and dishonour.

27 Let those who desire my vindication
shout for joy and be glad,
and say evermore,
‘Great is the Lord,
who delights in the welfare of his servant.’
28 Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness
and of your praise all day long.
