The archdiocese has formed a 17-member commission to research its ties to slavery going back hundreds of years

In recent years, a growing awareness of injustice and calls for reform have led to a racial reckoning, with businesses, corporations, nonprofit organizations and institutions across the country reassessing their own complicity with racism in its various forms.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore is continuing to undergo its own self-assessment of the issue, and has formed a 17-member commission to research its ties to slavery going back hundreds of years.

"This important commission is being formed to continue the archdiocese's journey to racial justice," said Archbishop William E. Lori, who has written two pastoral letters on racial justice. "It is essential that we continue to acknowledge the ties to slavery the archdiocese has had in its past and within its foundational history."

The essential work of the commission is to "build on our path forward using our collective experiences and careful reflections," the archbishop said.

"We plan to document the history, expand and detail the apologies of past archbishops with specific historical data, acknowledge systemic racism in the archdiocese today and provide opportunities for community engagement: listening, dialogue, discernment, healing and reconciliation -- and, most importantly, turn to prayer and engage in dialogue with the Lord," he said.

The commission was recommended to the archbishop by the Racial Justice Workgroup that was formed during the archdiocese's Journey to Racial Justice initiative. The recommendation to form a commission on slavery was included in a document the workgroup presented to Archbishop Lori after hosting listening sessions where numerous members of various parishes spoke about racism.

One of the main priorities of the commission, which has met with the archbishop, is to detail the effects of systemic racism.

"A lot of people say 'slavery happened so long......

Church so heavily infiltrated with communists that they aren't satisfied that many archdioceses are ruined because of perv priests and their works.

Now that the dust and ash has settled from that, it's time to scrounge around for other nonexistent race problems... these 300 years old.

What jerks.

How is it “justice” to punish people who didn’t commit the crime and reward people who were never subject to the crime?

The Left believes in "social justice," not individual justice. In other words, it pits one group against another. A person is only viewed as the member of a group, not as an individual. Social justice, i.e. socialism, is just a fancy word for old-fashioned tribal warfare.

E, your question is posed to people who lack the logical capacity to understand that they’re just pawns used for a bigger agenda.

I am convinced that if an intelligence test were taken, the population of Baltimore would rank first in stupidity among the world’s cities of its size.

Talk about navel gazing! It's as though there are no pressing problems to deal with in Baltimore like murder and drug addiction.

But the Baltimore Catholic Church is too cynical to deal with real problems, just fake ones. As Baltimore Barbie says "Math is hard".

Baltimore needs to be on the other side of a very strong wall.

So they will investigate how many Christians and especially religious have been sold to slavery (mostly by Muslims, but others too).

That's it...shift the focus from what most needs attention in today's Church: resolving the ongoing problem of sexual predators in the priesthood, those who protect them and providing reparations to those who have been victimized.

Pretty sure there was no one alive today in America who owned slaves, so why apologize?

There are places where slavery is routinely practiced today — Haiti and various mohammedan countries, for example.

As a resident of the Archdiocese of Baltimore these idiots wonder why church attendance is down. Lori’s motto seems to be “hide the pervs and chase the phantom”.

“ There are instructions for slavery in the OT and NT.”

And the NT instructions for slaves were to work toward buying yourselves out of slavery and to at least one slave owner to free his slave.
