I love it when I find a contradiction or a false statement in the Bible. I try my hardest to prove there is an error. I inevitably find I didn’t understand something that made it look like an error or I was missing facts. I always end up learning something and it is usually something very significant.

I keep a log of those things.

This is not news. The Siloam Pool shown in the picture has been an archeological site for many years. Saw it there in 2002.

This is the sort of stuff i’m talking about. Ever so often you see a story that confirms something the bible said, but which there was no heretofore archaeological evidence.

Indeed, this is a case which I would characterize as entirely legitimate, and not at cross-purposes with authentic Faith.

No one here has attempted to misappropriate this archeological discovery to "prove" that the miraculous events of the Bible can be explained scientifically (a Fool's Errand!).

Regards,

You are correct - it was discovered in 2004. That would have been helpful in the article.

Oh - and in the excerpt they say that in the New Testament it was used for bathing. Perhaps at that time they had better sources of drinking water elsewhere. IIRC, lots of these pools were made using tunnels to bring the water inside the city walls so they would have a source of water during a siege. Hmm - they could get their drinking water upstream at the source, and at the dead-end pool do their ritual bathing.

A few weeks ago our preacher was talking about the Centurion that asked Jesus to heal his slave. There are two gospel accounts of it and they are a bit different. He didn’t go into detail, but the one account makes it sound as if the Centurion is there, but another has a messenger asking Jesus.

He explained it (paraphrased) as:

I have to work late. The boss’s secretary told me I have to have the report done this evening so he can review it.

I have to work late - the boss says I have to have the report done this evening.

Oh no, so the Temple “Mount” is not the site of the Temple. It is buried under loads of fill dirt.

It was rediscovered in 2004

https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna6750670

The pool was rediscovered during an excavation work for a sewer in the autumn of 2004, by Ir David Foundation workers, following a request and directions given by archaeologists Eli Shukron accompanied by Ori Orbach from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. Archaeologists Eli Shukron and Ronny Reich (working with the Israel Antiquities Authority) uncovered stone steps, and it became obvious that these steps were likely to have been part of the Second Temple period pool. Excavations commenced and confirmed the initial supposition; the find was formally announced on August 9, 2005, and received substantial international media attention

“....It was where Jesus performed one of his miracles. In John 9:1-7, He restored a blind man’s sight by using mud and the waters of the pool.

The pool’s discovery has silenced many skeptics and historians who claimed the pool was non-existent. New Testament scholar James H. Charlesworth of Princeton Theological Seminary said, “Scholars have said that there wasn’t a Pool of Siloam and that John was using a religious conceit. Now we have found the Pool of Siloam … exactly where John said it was.”

It only proves that the Bible is more than “pure theology. It is now grounded in history,” he added.”
