Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 6

Blessings and Woes

17 He went down with them and stood on a level place. A large crowd of his disciples was there and a great number of people from all over Judea, from Jerusalem, and from the coastal region around Tyre and Sidon, 18 who had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. Those troubled by impure spirits were cured, 19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all.

20 Looking at his disciples, he said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21  Blessed are you who hunger now,
    for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
    for you will laugh.
22  Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you and insult you
and reject your name as evil,
because of the Son of Man.
23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.

24  “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
25  Woe to you who are well fed now,
    for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.
26  Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you,
for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
Blessed and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
How Mighty and Perfect is Your Word,
Like Apples of Gold
In Settings of Silver.
How Lovely Are Your Precepts,
Which are like a Refining Fire.
Being Refined is not Always Pleasant,
But When You See Yourself Reflected In Our Lives,
You, The Master Goldsmith,
The Ultimate Creative Artist,
Will have remade us again in Your Image.
We hunger and thirst for You,
Change Our hearts through the refining Fire of Your Word
That we may walk in Your Way.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

In the 13 years that this Thread has been in existence, I have repeated some of my stories. The most likely repeats are:

1. Charlton Heston and the Bar Mitzvah Boy: A boy eager to learn about his faith watches "The Ten Commandments" for the first time, and compares it to another favorite movie "What was MOSES doing on the Planet of the Apes?"

2. A Tornado, a Harley, and Two Jamaican Angels: A (small) tornado flips my bike out from under me, and I am rescued by two beautiful-looking Jamaican Youths who later disappear.

3. How I Spent My Dream Vacation: My Best Friend dying in my arms in an open-door helicopter over an erupting volcano.

I know that these three stories have appeared more than once, and there may be others. I've been riding for over 50 years, and therein lie many tales of adventure. Being a Rock Musician has also landed me in some weird situations. Anyway, I always appreciate your patience when I repeat myself. The good thing is that I KNOW I am repeating myself, so I don't think that it is a "problem". Sometimes the same story can be applied to more than one lesson.

As we read Today's Passage in Luke's Gospel, we can't help but think, "Haven't I heard this before?" Well, you are right about that. In Matthew 5-7, we read the famous "Sermon on the Mount". At the time, I told yet another story, about sitting on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, and being addressed by Avi, our guide, who spoke without a microphone. Although there were many of us spread out on that shore, Avi's voice was as clear a s a bell. He spoke in a normal tone of voice, but the land and water acted like a huge natural microphone. Avi read to us from Matthew's "Sermon on the Mount." We heard every word. From that demonstration, it would seem that it was the audience that was sitting on the "Mount", and Jesus was standing on the flat area at the shoreline. The simple fact of natural acoustics are no problem for the Creator of the Universe!

Anyway, here in Today's Reading, Dr. Luke states that Jesus was standing in a flat area. The Sermon is similar to the one in Matthew, but not exactly the same words. However, the PRINCIPLES are the same. We will especially see this when Dr. Luke describes The LORD'S PRAYER.

So, in conclusion, the two accounts do not disagree with each other. They are two different sermons given at two different times, perhaps in two different places.

But, Truth is Truth. While the Sermons are similar, Jesus is NOT just repeating Himself. There are different nuances to be gleaned from the two sermons that share the same Truth, but from different angles.

PS: Anytime you would like a retelling of any of my stories, just ask. Or not. :-)

Quick synopsis:

I was riding east on Oakland Park Blvd (Ft. Lauderdale) after having taught a piano lesson in Southwest Ranches, a rural community about twenty miles west of I95, on the edge of the Everglades.

In my rear view mirrors, I saw boiling green and black clouds behind me, chasing me as I rode east.

“Oh my...” I figured. “That looks like a Supercell. Gotta get home! Turn North on State Road 7 to go the last ten miles!”

I turned North on State Road 7, and suddenly a tornado tore through the front forks of my bike. I leaped off, and found myself lying on the street, my bike spinning around in the tornado like a food processor.

Two Handsome youths in shining white T-Shirts, with Dreadlocks all the way down their backs, picked me up off the street, wrapped my bleeding arm in a T-Shirt, placed me on the righted motorcycle, and sent me on my way.

Since I only had one gear now (the gear shift lever and clutch had been shorn off) I rode the last ten miles in the rain in second gear. It took me over two hours to go ten miles, LOL.

I washed the T-Shirt and went back the next day to return it, but nobody knew who these two men could have been, as nobody had ever seen them before.

I still have the bike, but I don’t know what became of the T-Shirt. This was 23 years ago but I still remember every detail.

Thanks for that synopsis!

It is Miraculous!

I believe I have encountered angels too. God is Good.
Going to share this with hubs.

The other stories did stay in my memory. One was funny, the other made my laptop blurry...
Stay safe, shiny side up!

I see that you, too, have been visited by “road angels” as I call those who stop to help and then just.....leave. They are a real blessing for sure!

Wow!

Angels no doubt. Not Hell’s Angels, but the heavenly kind.

Something about what you said about the tornado reminded me of Wizard of Oz. Boiling green. I wonder if that was the inspiration for The Emerald City?

Riders speak of “Road Angels” a lot. I think they are a special division.
