Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 6
The Twelve Apostles
12 One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. 13 When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: 14 Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD,
Our God,
King of the Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer.
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are Righteous and Just,
And You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe.
How Wonderful Are Your Precepts,
How Precious Is Your WORD,
How Eternal and Sure Are Your Promises!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 62
To the leader: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall never be shaken.
3 How long will you assail a person,
will you batter your victim, all of you,
as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
4 Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
They take pleasure in falsehood;
they bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse.
Selah
5 For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my deliverance and my honour;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Selah
9 Those of low estate are but a breath,
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no confidence in extortion,
and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all
according to their work.

Dr. Luke makes a differentiation between "Disciples" and "Apostles". Since the Greek Language was probably Luke's Native Tongue, this difference is an important one. We explored it back when we were looking at the Parallel Passage in Matthew.
A "Disciple" is somebody who is following a leader and learning from him. It is from this term that we derive the word "Discipline", especially when that word is used to mean a field of study. As any "disciple" knows, "Discipline" can also mean "Correction". (Been there...done that, on both ends of the spectrum. For me, it is easier to ACCEPT Correction than it is to ADMINISTER it.)
In any case, Jesus had many more disciples than He had Apostles. The term "apostle" means somebody who is sent to do a task. When it is used with an Upper Case "A", it means, specifically, one of the Twelve. In other parts of Scripture, 70 disciples (who are sent out) are mentioned, and, on the Day of Pentecost, there were 120 men and women in The Upper Room. Paul greets people in his letters as "My fellow apostle", but these are "lower case "a" apostles, not the Original Twelve. In a way, we disciples are called to also be apostles. We are not to keep the message to ourselves.
Some will argue that the names of the Twelve differ in this account from Matthew. However, we already know that Peter had three names, Simon, Cephas, and Peter. Bartholomew is also called Thaddeus, and Levi is also called Matthew. Most of you know me as "left that other site", but some of you know me as "ML/LTOS", and others as "Mary-Lou". But I am the same person, whatever you call me.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
