Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 5
Jesus Questioned About Fasting
33 They said to him, “John’s disciples often fast and pray, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking.”
34 Jesus answered, “Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? 35 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.”
36 He told them this parable: “No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. 38 No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for they say, ‘The old is better.’”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God
How Excellent is Your Holy Name!
What a Joy it is,
To Lift Up Your Holy Name in Worship,
For You Alone are Worthy of Praise.
For You are Holy,
Righteous and Just,
And Glorious in Majesty!
You Alone Are The One True God.
Perfect in All Your Ways
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
And Lord of Lords!
Your Ways are so above our ways,
And Your Plan is perfect,
Even when when don't understand it fully at the time.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Dad used to make Root Beer. It was possible to purchase a tiny bottle of Root Extract that was enough for an entire batch. First, Dad would dissolve a cake of yeast in some warm water, Then He would fill a huge crock with water, sugar, and the bottle of extract. The bubbling yeast was poured into the mixture, and then it was bottled. We used various beer bottles in the old brands: Schlitz, Narragansett, and Pabst. Even though the bottles had been thoroughly sterilized, the labels were firmly attached. No Problem! We knew it was Root Beer, and the best Root Beer on the Planet.
It was important to age the new Root Beer for exactly two weeks in the basement. That was just enough fermentation to make the drink fizzy without it becoming alcohol. Then it was a quick chilling to stop the fermentation, and off we went to the beach with our fabulous homemade Root Beer.
One beautiful Summer Day, we were all sitting on the beach drinking dad's Root Beer, when we were approached by a cop. He thought we were drinking BEER! We had to explain that it was homemade Root Beer, and gave him a bottle. Even he admitted that he had never had anything so delicious. He admonished us to tell Dad to peel off the labels before using the bottles again.
Once (and all it took was ONCE), a batch of Root Beer was left to ferment too long. Suddenly, several of the bottles EXPLODED, causing a chain reaction that shattered the whole batch. There was alcoholic Root Beer and broken glass everywhere. The basement stank of it for months after the incident.
By this time, the beverage companies caught on to the fact that people liked the "Old-Fashioned" flavor of Real Root Beer, and started marketing products that tasted more authentic, but not as good as Dad's. However, when we moved, the Crock, the Bottles, and the Capping Machine all went out in the trash. I can still remember the flavor, 60 years later.
The story of the Wineskins made perfect sense to the People of Jesus's time. Wineskins were made of leather, and would stretch as the wine fermented. However, they didn't "bounce back" after the wine was poured out, so they could not be used again for that purpose. Jesus used this Parable when describing the awkwardness of attempting to pour New Faith into an old religion. One can't just patch a grace-based Salvation onto a Law-based Religious System. The Pharisees must have realized this, otherwise they would not have been so critical of everything Jesus said or did. They could see it happening before their eyes, in the Freedom demonstrated by the Disciples when it came to scheduled fasts and observances.
When the sweet, new, wine of the Holy Spirit fills the bottle, it's time to tear off the old labels.
And don't leave it bottled up. When it's time to open up and share, it's time.

Psalm 138
Of David.
1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down towards your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness;
for you have exalted your name and your word
above everything.*
3 On the day I called, you answered me,
you increased my strength of soul.*
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord,
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
5 They shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
for great is the glory of the Lord.
6 For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly;
but the haughty he perceives from far away.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;
you stretch out your hand,
and your right hand delivers me.
8 The Lord will fulfil his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures for ever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands

Our local Bible study has been studying Beth Moore’s Children of the Day. And this line came up as part of the lesson: Legalism is a form of laziness.
It’s easier to follow a set of rules and check off boxes—there that’s done. Grace and freedom have no such boxes and make us more aware of the Spirit leading us in our daily walk. Walking by faith not by sight. Could write a book about it. And I’m sure many have.
