Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 2
The Boy Jesus at the Temple
41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. 42 When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. 43 After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. 44 Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
49 “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”[f] 50 But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
You are Forever Holy and Righteous.
How Excellent is Your Name!
It is You Who Stretched out the Heavens,
And it is You Who laid the Foundations of the Earth.
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
and You Alone Are The One True God.
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
Eternal, and Almighty,
We Can Do Nothing But
Fall On Our Faces Before You
in Endless Worship and Thanksgiving!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

My twin grandnephews are approaching their tenth birthday. One is very excited about becoming a "tween". The other, is apprehensive about turning "double digit". The boy who is excited is very willowy and energetic, while his brother is somewhat dour and legalistic. It is as though turning ten means two different things to the boys: to one, it perhaps means he will be getting more privileges that come with maturing, while the other may see it as an end to childhood with more responsibilities. The answer, of course, is a little of both.
When I was a kid, the "Tweens" stayed in Elementary School till the end of the sixth grade. Then we went to Junior High for the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, and then on to High School for 10th, 11th, and 12th. Nevertheless, the 9th Graders were called "Freshmen", and were considered High Schoolers. They were just not mature enough to be mixed in with the Seniors, who were practically "Adults".
In the past few decades, this arrangement has changed. Elementary School ends at the Fifth Grade, the Sixth Graders are sent to "Middle School along with 7 and 8, and the Ninth Graders are in their first year of High School. For some reason, this feels wrong to me. Sixth Graders seem to be two immature to be thrown in with "Teenagers". Especially the boys, whose voices haven't even changed yet, seem lost being "low man on the totem pole" in Middle School. Of course, that is just my humble opinion, but most of my music students are "tweens" and I know how vulnerable they can be.
According to Exodus 23, the People of Israel were expected to celebrate three mandatory feasts every year. In First Century Judea, that meant traveling to Jerusalem. The further away someone lived, the more difficult it became. Seeing that it was a three-day journey from Nazareth to Jerusalem, most families had to be content with one trip a year, usually Passover. They traveled in Caravans, Men in one group, and Women with their children in the other. Mary and Joseph did this every year for twelve years.
On this particular Passover, Jesus was twelve years old, and would have been a "Middle-Schooler" in our own time. Artists nearly always show Him as still a "Tween", without the physical characteristics of a grown man. (As a matter of fact, most Jewish Boys don't have their Bar Mitzvah till the age of 13, the perfect time to have to sing in Public...when their voices are changing!) Yet, Jesus was acting very grown up for His age at the time, and the returning Caravans could have posed a dilemma. Was Jesus ready to walk home with the Men, or was He still a little Boy, designated to walk with the Women and Children?
This is the only possible explanation for the Family hiking a whole day before they realized that Jesus wasn't with the Men OR the Women. He was back in Jerusalem! And so, Mary and Joseph, after having walked a whole day, had to turn around and walk another whole day to get back to the city. Then, they searched for another entire day until they found the Boy, engaging in some very erudite conversation with the Elders of the Temple. (That's Three Days, if you are counting).
Here we have an interesting parallel to the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus. Passover, Jerusalem, Missing for Three Days, Found again, and even the number 12.
Not a single verse in Luke is wasted.
One assumes that the following Passover, Jesus traveled in the Men's Caravan.

Great insights of the man-boy division and the three days. I never thought of it.

Psalm 53
To the leader: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David.
1 Fools say in their hearts, ‘There is no God.’
They are corrupt, they commit abominable acts;
there is no one who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven on humankind
to see if there are any who are wise,
who seek after God.
3 They have all fallen away, they are all alike perverse;
there is no one who does good,
no, not one.
4 Have they no knowledge, those evildoers,
who eat up my people as they eat bread,
and do not call upon God?
5 There they shall be in great terror,
in terror such as has not been.
For God will scatter the bones of the ungodly;*
they will be put to shame,* for God has rejected them.
6 O that deliverance for Israel would come from Zion!
When God restores the fortunes of his people,
Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad.
