Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 1

Mary’s Song

46 And Mary said:

“My soul glorifies the Lord
47      and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

48  for he has been mindful
    of the humble state of his servant.

From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49      for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
    holy is his name.

50  His mercy extends to those who fear him,
    from generation to generation.

51  He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
    he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

52  He has brought down rulers from their thrones
    but has lifted up the humble.

53  He has filled the hungry with good things
    but has sent the rich away empty.

54  He has helped his servant Israel,
    remembering to be merciful

55  to Abraham and his descendants forever,
    just as he promised our ancestors.”

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Hallowed and Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD.
You Alone Are The Most High!
You, The One True God Of Abraham,
The Ancient Of Days,
LORD of Hosts,
and Rock of All Ages,
Are The Same Yesterday,
Today, and Forever.
Your Steadfast Love Never Ceases.
Your Mercies Never Come to an End.
They Are New Every Morning.
Your Loving Kindness Is from Everlasting To Everlasting.
Even When We Are Unfaithful,
You Are Always Faithful.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

According to tradition, St. Jerome (Jeremiah, Jeremy, Jeremias, Hieronymous, all the same guy) took refuge from the World in a Cave in Bethlehem. Significantly, this was the same Cave believed by many to be The Final Resting Place of the Innocents murdered by Herod as told in Matthew's Gospel. Perhaps because of the Holy Surroundings, Jeremiah was inspired to translate the Holy Bible from its original languages into Latin. Latin was the common language at the time, due to the influence of the Roman Empire. It was a living language, complete with beautiful poetry and vulgar, rough words and phrases. It has long since morphed into Italian, Romanian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and, to some extent, English. The most erudite scholar spoke Latin, but so did the rough peasant, the foot soldier, and the common people. Thus, it was called The Vulgate, not because it was Vulgar, but because it was Common. By this time, Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic weren't so common anymore.

St. Jerome is one of my personal Christian Heroes, because it was his "Vulgate" that got the ball rolling on Bible Translation. Wycliffe, Tyndale, Luther, The Committee that worked under King James, and many others, all contributed to making the Bible available to the Common Man...us "Vulgars" if you will. I am grateful to all of them for their work.

The first word in Mary's Song in the Vulgate is "Magnificat". It is Latin for "I will magnify..." To "magnify" something is to praise it, raise it up, and speak well of it. Mary is, of course, magnifying The LORD with her prayer. Thus, her Profound Expression of Joy has been named "The Magnificat" and is still prayed aloud in many churches.

Mary's Prayer is very similar to Hannah's Prayer in 1 Samuel 1.

Both Prayers celebrate the Power and Grace of Almighty God, Sing His Praises, Recount His Mighty Deeds, and sing of His Goodness.

There is a reason God inspired Dr. Luke to include this Prayer in his Narrative. Like The Lord's Prayer, the Magnificat gives us a model for our own Prayer Life.

Whatever your needs may be in prayer, always "Enter His Courts With Praise and Thanksgiving."

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 58

To the leader: Do Not Destroy. Of David. A Miktam.

1 Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods?*
Do you judge people fairly?
2 No, in your hearts you devise wrongs;
your hands deal out violence on earth.

3 The wicked go astray from the womb;
they err from their birth, speaking lies.
4 They have venom like the venom of a serpent,
like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
5 so that it does not hear the voice of charmers
or of the cunning enchanter.

6 O God, break the teeth in their mouths;
tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!
7 Let them vanish like water that runs away;
like grass let them be trodden down* and wither.
8 Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime;
like the untimely birth that never sees the sun.
9 Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns,
whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!

10 The righteous will rejoice when they see vengeance done;
they will bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 People will say, ‘Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.’

I recall meeting an Episcopal priest who called his cat “Magnifi-cat”

Anyway I understand the Vulgate version was used throughout the Holy Roman Empire in the Middle Ages, when denizens freely moved about, like it was the United States of Europe. It was a universal language understood by scholars and academics.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
