Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 15
The Burial of Jesus
42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph saw where he was laid.

When Compact Discs made their debut in the Audio World, everybody was talking about them. They were considered much more clear and true sounding than Vinyl Records, took up less space, and were supposedly indestructible. Eventually, Interstate moves and smaller quarters converted me to exclusive CD's and I sold all my perfectly cared-for Records when I moved to Florida.
While in Florida, I had a Recording Studio of my own where I could manufacture CDs after recording them in my 16-Track Digital Recording Studio. I had lots of clients and students who produced complete Albums with labels, jackets, and jewel cases produced in small editions, of their own music. It was a nice little business, very creative, and self-sufficient. Kids got to write and produce their own songs in a real Studio environment, and then give their CDs as gifts or even put their songs on the Internet. But "live-streaming" was looming on the horizon. Suddenly, as the Compact Discs had replaced Vinyl, Live-streaming was replacing Compact Discs. When I moved back to New England, I gave away all the Studio Equipment and donated all my CDs to the Salvation Army.
An odd thing happened after I moved to Massachusetts. Vinyl came back! Some might argue that it had never been dead in the first place, and that lots of people had kept their collections, but now, even Walmart is carrying Vinyl Records. Vintage Classic Rock can fetch hundreds of dollars online, and current bands are publishing their music on 33 RPM Lp's instead of CD's. It is as if Vinyl has risen from the dead.
All the CDs, that is, except for a few Classical collections that I could play on my little Alarm Clock/CD Player from Radio Shack. These were primarily to lull me to sleep. The three favorites were: Handel's Messiah (Pinnock Version), All Night Vigil (Rachmaninoff), and a double CD set of Bach Adagios (Various Artists).
The Bach CD is my favorite, and the Fifth Track on CD2 is, in my humble opinion, the best eight minutes of all of Classical Music. Your mileage may vary, but I am sharing it with you this morning because it coincides with Today's Reading.

Here are the lyrics:
Rest well, ye holy bones and members,
Which I henceforth shall never weep for,
Rest well and bring me, too, to rest!
The tomb which for you is assigned,
And henceforth no distress will hold,
Doth open heav'n to me
and shut the gates of hell.

The People who placed Jesus in the Tomb had been told that He would rise again, but they had just seen Him cruelly executed on the cross. Joseph of Arimathea, a person of wealth and authority, was able to get Jesus's Body into his own tomb before Sunset, in accordance with Jewish Law. Even the traditional anointing of the dead would have to wait till after the Sabbath. But that was going to be difficult, as a huge stone had been rolled into place to seal the tomb.
And so, the Sabbath, a day of Rest, would come and go before the women could venture back, wondering who would roll the stone away so they could anoint the Body.
Jesus's work was not yet completed, but for now, Rest Well, Holy Bones.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

I tried to look up the artist for #3, but was unale to get any results. From the look of it, it may be The 14th Station of the Cross in a church somewhere in Europe. It may be anonymous, as most Stations of the Cross are. There will probably be more Station 14 paintings coming up today.

Psalm 59
To the leader: Do Not Destroy. Of David. A Miktam, when Saul ordered his house to be watched in order to kill him.
1 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
protect me from those who rise up against me.
2 Deliver me from those who work evil;
from the bloodthirsty save me.
3 Even now they lie in wait for my life;
the mighty stir up strife against me.
For no transgression or sin of mine, O Lord,
4 for no fault of mine, they run and make ready.
Rouse yourself, come to my help and see!
5 You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel.
Awake to punish all the nations;
spare none of those who treacherously plot evil.
Selah
6 Each evening they come back,
howling like dogs
and prowling about the city.
7 There they are, bellowing with their mouths,
with sharp words* on their lips—
for ‘Who’, they think,* ‘will hear us?’
8 But you laugh at them, O Lord;
you hold all the nations in derision.
9 O my strength, I will watch for you;
for you, O God, are my fortress.
10 My God in his steadfast love will meet me;
my God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
11 Do not kill them, or my people may forget;
make them totter by your power, and bring them down,
O Lord, our shield.
12 For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips,
let them be trapped in their pride.
For the cursing and lies that they utter,
13 consume them in wrath;
consume them until they are no more.
Then it will be known to the ends of the earth
that God rules over Jacob.
Selah
14 Each evening they come back,
howling like dogs
and prowling about the city.
15 They roam about for food,
and growl if they do not get their fill.
16 But I will sing of your might;
I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been a fortress for me
and a refuge on the day of my distress.
17 O my strength, I will sing praises to you,
for you, O God, are my fortress,
the God who shows me steadfast love.

Amen.
God’s vision of peace for Jerusalem: For He Himself is our peace and our bond of unity. He who made both groups—[Jews and Gentiles]—into one body and broke down the barrier, the dividing wall [of spiritual antagonism between us], 15 by abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh the hostility caused by the Law with its commandments contained in ordinances [which He satisfied]; so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thereby establishing peace. 16 And [that He] might reconcile them both [Jew and Gentile, united] in one body to God through the cross, thereby putting to death the hostility. 17 And He came and preached the good news of peace to you [Gentiles] who were far away, and peace to those [Jews] who were near. 18 For it is through Him that we both have a [direct] way of approach in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens [outsiders without rights of citizenship], but you are fellow citizens with the saints (God’s people), and are [members] of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the [chief] Cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure is joined together, and it continues [to increase] growing into a holy temple in the Lord [a sanctuary dedicated, set apart, and sacred to the presence of the Lord]. 22 In Him [and in fellowship with one another] you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
