Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 12

The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham!

We Come Into Your Presence With Singing,
And Into Your Courts With Praise.

Dear Father, We Thank You for the People
That You Send Into Our Lives to Refresh Us,
People Who Make Our Journey Easier.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

My friend bought a house that had been occupied by an elderly widow, who passed away without relatives to claim the property. Her lack of loved ones was evident by the condition of the house, which was awful. We were appalled by the filth and squalor of the house, and had to wear special masks to clean it out. My friend had LOTS of "loved ones", and we all pitched in together to redo the whole place. HGTV had nothing on us! In less than two months, the place was beautiful, and my friend and his new bride moved in.

Among the trash, that had to be thrown in the huge dumpster parked outside, were stacks and stacks of correspondence from every charity under the sun. "Thank you for your generous gift of $5.00..." etc. Most were legitimate charities, Veterans' Organizations, Hospitals, and so on. However, there were many that were from TV Preachers of all sects and denominations, many of them suspect. Along with the "Thank You" were pleas for MORE money, and, obviously, the poor woman complied and sent more. I remember the rage we felt when seeing this evidence of the exploitation of this poor widow. Although we knew that the letters were generated by a computer, and were no way designed to exploit the widow, it still made me furious.

Some would argue that it wasn't the "charity's" fault that, perhaps with the onset of dementia and frailty of the widow, these letters were taken personally by her. But, there was the way those letters were worded that made me so angry. Each Charity thinks that they are the ONLY worthy cause in the world, and use professionals to extract the largest share of the donors' dollar. I actually once had a cousin-in-law who worked in the "Fund-Raising" profession, and the methods she used had NOTHING to do with "Charity".

An Aunt of mine belonged to a Ladies' Religious Club, (Mostly Widows, by the way) and they had a budget overage one year. They voted to donate the money to a famous TV Charity hosted by a famous comedian. After doing a little research, they found out that most of the money went to production and administration of the TV Show. The percentage that went to the actual charity was in single digits. The quickly changed plans and gave it to The St. Vincent De Paul Society, which gives directly to the poor.

In NONE of these cases were the widows doing wrong to give money that they couldn't afford to spurious charities. When they gave, it was out of love, which is the root word of Charity. The word is derived from the Latin, which is the translation of the word agape in Greek. As any student of the New Testament knows, "Agape" doesn't mean romantic love, erotic love, brotherly love, family love, patriotic love, or any of those other kinds of love out there. It is a very special kind of love between God and a Person that transcends all the others.

The Widow in the Gospel story was not even paying for access to the Temple. Women were not allowed into the interior courtyard. Perhaps this is why the trumpet-shaped collection boxes were located in the WOMEN'S Courtyard. (Oooops...that's me being cynical. I repent.) According to Jesus, though, this Widow pleased God more than anyone who had the ability to endow the Temple with a lot of money, get their names on a bronze plaque, enter the inner courts, and get thanked publicly. In reality, she had given more than all the rest.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 12

To the leader: according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

1 Help, O Lord, for there is no longer anyone who is godly;
the faithful have disappeared from humankind.
2 They utter lies to each other;
with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

3 May the Lord cut off all flattering lips,
the tongue that makes great boasts,
4 those who say, ‘With our tongues we will prevail;
our lips are our own—who is our master?’

5 ‘Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy groan,
I will now rise up,’ says the Lord;
‘I will place them in the safety for which they long.’
6 The promises of the Lord are promises that are pure,
silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times.

7 You, O Lord, will protect us;
you will guard us from this generation for ever.
8 On every side the wicked prowl,
as vileness is exalted among humankind.
