Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 9
The Transfiguration

2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”

8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”

12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected? 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come, and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins

and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

When I moved to Florida in 1999, I got a quick lesson in "Entomology". Bugs in Florida are much different than those in New England. The "Palmetto Bug", which is essentially a three inch long cockroach that can fly (YIKES!), can definitely spook a Bostonian or New Yorker who has only seen the little northern variety. It is recommended that one has the entire perimeter of your house, inside and out, sprayed with a deterrent at least once a month. I contracted with a reputable firm to have my house treated on the second Tuesday of every month, at 8:30 AM. This worked very smoothly for two years. The person assigned to me was an affable Pakistani man named Sunil, who was always talkative and friendly.

On a sunny Tuesday in September, Sunil was making his rounds. he had already treated the outside and was now spraying under the cabinets in the kitchen. I was in the den, which was actually part of the kitchen, watching Greta Van Sustern on "Court TV", a murder trial of a police officer who had allegedly killed his wife. I was thoroughly absorbed in the courtroom proceedings.

Suddenly the program was interrupted by an image of the World Trade Center in New York. A plane had crashed into the side of the building and was burning out of control. Then, I watched in horror as the second plane flew into the other tower.

Sunil looked up from his work and said in disgust,

"Why do these guys think that they are doing this for Allah?"

The newscasters had not yet even started to speculate that this attack was being perpetrated by Muslims, but Sunil knew. Whether he was part of it, or just knew the nature of his fellow coreligionists, I will never know, but the Exterminator sent a different technician the following month. Sunil had disappeared.

This is another one of the stories where the TRUTH is so hard to grasp that we have to come up with alternative scenarios to make up the differences in our comprehension. Peter was still coping with the statement that the Messiah had to DIE, and he still didn't understand it.

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up to a mountain to give them a glimpse of Eternity. There, He was Transfigured before them, and appeared with Moses and Elijah. Nearly all Bible Scholars will say that Moses represents The Law, and Elijah represents the Prophets. Jesus, in the center, is the Fulfillment of Both.

The Law is codified in The Torah, the First Five Books of the Bible. From the animal-skin garments provided by God to Adam and Eve, through Covenant with Abraham, to the Passover, and beyond, in the Desert Tabernacle, the shedding of blood is the only Atonement for Sin. This is called "The Scarlet Thread of Redemption" by Bible Scholars, and is further symbolized by the red cloth Rahab hung from her window in Jericho and other instances. This is a hard teaching, and not everyone can handle it. It just seems cruel to a lot of people.

Just like the newscasters on 9/11/01, who had dozens of theories, rationalizations, and excuses rather than stating THE TRUTH, Peter had to find an alternate explanation for "Messiah Ben Yosef, The Suffering Servant". Jesus said he was the Fulfillment of the Law, and the Law required Atonement.

Elijah, representing the Prophets, showed that Jesus was not only the Fulfillment of the Law, but also the Fulfillment of Prophecy. That's where "Messiah Ben David", the Conquering Hero, comes in. Jesus had already fulfilled many Prophecies, and would be fulfilling more in the future. Hallelujah!

What was Peter's reaction to this mighty Revelation? He wanted to build three shelters. How often do we try to avert Overwhelming Truth by getting involved in a Building Project?

Just visit Lower Manhattan to see exactly what I'm talking about.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 56

To the leader: according to The Dove on Far-off Terebinths. Of David. A Miktam, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.

1 Be gracious to me, O God, for people trample on me;
all day long foes oppress me;
2 my enemies trample on me all day long,
for many fight against me.
O Most High, 3when I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I am not afraid;
what can flesh do to me?

5 All day long they seek to injure my cause;
all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They stir up strife, they lurk,
they watch my steps.
As they hoped to have my life,
7 so repay* them for their crime;
in wrath cast down the peoples, O God!

8 You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your record?
9 Then my enemies will retreat
on the day when I call.
This I know, that* God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 in God I trust; I am not afraid.
What can a mere mortal do to me?

12 My vows to you I must perform, O God;
I will render thank-offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
and my feet from falling,
so that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
