Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 5
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

My mornings are usually the same:
1. Wake Up, Turn on the Coffeemaker, go to the loo.
2. Get Dressed
3. Walk The Dog
4. Feed The Dog
5. Make Breakfast.
6. Do my Bible Readings (8 Chapters OT and NT)
7. Study For Today's Thread. (while eating Breakfast)
8. Turn on Computer
9. While the Computer is Booting Up, do Skin Care
9. Answer Last Nights Posts on FR.
10. Set Up Today's Thread and pray about what I am going to write (not planned in advance)
11. Format Tomorrow's Thread
12. Compose Today's Thread Story (which I am doing right now.)
That would be the routine IF I am not interrupted by anything. But it almost never happens. Things like a dead mouse, an emergency phone call, a doggie accident, an electrical outage, or a neighborhood problem all seem to conspire keep me from doing my little personal "12-Step Program" every morning. This morning was no different. I had three stressful phone calls in the last twenty minutes.
Such interruptions can easily trigger "Senior Moments" or a chain of urgent matters that cause "one thing to lead to the other". There are dozens of memes and satirical articles on the Internet that describe this phenomenon. Often, the original task is lost when a string of other tasks suddenly emerge like a Rube Goldberg invention. I don't think I am alone in this.
When a person is in Leadership, this is even more pronounced. Everybody has needs, and everybody has a sense of urgency. This is often caused by frustration with "The System" and total lack of any progress in getting anything done. While there is much we can do to "Unclutter" and organize our own lives, there is little we can do to correct the flood tide of outside forces that thwart and delay us at every turn. And that is what it has been like for me and my sister for MONTHS now, in her quest for healthcare for herself and skilled nursing care for her husband. Every time we think we have made progress, we hit another brick wall of bureaucracy and incompetence.
In Today's Reading, Jesus is in the middle of teaching when he is approached by a "Synagogue Ruler". This is a minor official in the Synagogue, perhaps involved in maintenance of the building, leading worship, and other tasks. He is not a priest or Levite, but a more secular kind of figure. Jesus drops what He is doing and heads over to the man's house. Meanwhile, there is a woman in the crowd who has an urgent problem. To her, the problem is more urgent than the Synagogue Ruler's. To the Synagogue Ruler, HIS problem is more important than Jesus's Teaching Ministry. The point is, of course, that to each person, their own problem is the most urgent.
The woman has been bleeding for Twelve years. She has spent everything she had on doctors and healers, and she was still bleeding. According to Leviticus 15:25-33, this affliction made her "unclean" and everyone who touched her would be unclean as well. Her very presence in a crowd was a violation of ritual purity and decency. And yet, there she was, and in her heart she said, "If i just touch the hem of his garment, I will be healed."
When she does this, power surges out of Jesus and heals her. It looked like she might get away with her secret, but Jesus turns around (another interruption) and says, "Who Touched Me?" This forces the woman into the limelight where her healing becomes public.
Then Jesus is intercepted again by people telling Him not to bother going to the Synagogue Leader's house after all, because the little girl has died. Jesus continues to the house and raises her from the dead, in one of the few times He does this Ultimate Miracle.
Then, I presume, He resumes with the lesson He was teaching before all this started.
In both situations, Jesus was placed in a situation where He would have been made ritually "unclean" if He were just a normal person. A Bleeding Woman and a Dead Child were both sources of ritual impurity, and would require a process in the Temple to restore His place in the community. But He did not recoil from these unfortunate people. He touched them, and allowed Himself to be touched.
Our Faith should never become routine. Life is full of surprises and emergencies. The test is not the emergencies that beset us, but how we handle them when the come.

Psalm 20
To the leader. A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
The name of the God of Jacob protect you!
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary,
and give you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your offerings,
and regard with favour your burnt sacrifices.
Selah
4 May he grant you your heart’s desire,
and fulfil all your plans.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory,
and in the name of our God set up our banners.
May the Lord fulfil all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the Lord will help his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with mighty victories by his right hand.
7 Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses,
but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They will collapse and fall,
but we shall rise and stand upright.
9 Give victory to the king, O Lord;
answer us when we call.*
