I have a few random thoughts on the apparent outpouring of the Holy Spirit presently in Asbury University. First of all, I'm kind of a indirect child of the 1970 revival in Asbury. I was attending a sister evangelical college in the early 1970's and an Asbury professor came to our chapel to speak. After the chapel numerous students stayed after the chapel was over. This may be subjective but the power of God seemed to descend upon the campus. I would almost describe it as a burning fire with an awesome almost fearful presence. This was accompanied by extreme repentence and finally the weeping presence of the Lord Jesus. So because of this I believe the outpouring in Asbury at present is legitimate. Of course there are things to watch out for but I believe the maturity of this holiness institution will guard against some of the deplorable aspects of our culture. I am intrigued by the fact that this outpouring has spread both to mainline Bible colleges like Cedarville and the charismatic schools like Lee University. I believe that in the post christian pagan times we live in, It would be just like God to move in a small college among young people without the direction of our programmed megachurches. Saying all this I am praying for this outpouring and all the people moved to repentance through it. I am will to temporarily lay aside the many important doctrinal differences by many evangelical groups and rejoice with Baptists, Charismatics, Episcopalians, Catholics, etc that have come to Asbury to experience the power and grace of God
Amen to that.
I had thought about this three years ago when All Churches were Locked Down !
Yes
I’m pissed.
G-d is where you find Him, but so are false prophets. I follow Him and Yeshua because of what I see and know to be true. The proof is everywhere for those willing to see. You don’t need other men to tell you what to believe; the truth is in us all.
Amen!
The Truth is found in the Word of God
I’m fine with all that as long as they vote D. /s
This is where knowing God’s Word becomes so important.
On the one hand, we should not blindly speak against anything we are hearing, because we very well could be speaking against the Holy Spirit... which runs the risk of blaspheming Him... and that is unforgivable.
Clearly, people are being led to Jesus Christ through this... so understand what you are saying before you speak it.
On the other hand, there is no question that the energy from this revival will be attacked by the enemy, or in other ways taken advantage of to deceive many.
So... I hope people will see just HOW IMPORTANT it is to not only KNOW God’s Word... but to make sure they themselves are close to and humbly seeking the counsel of the Holy Spirit.
Focus not on the origins or location of the movement itself or the lure of supernatural experience, but rather on what is being said, and what God really wants to accomplish through it.
I am Eastern Orthodox and gave been for thirty-five years, but I grew up an evangelical United Methodist in southern Illinois. I knew of Asbury Seminary because a lot of the more solid UM clergy got their training there. I attended lots of revival meetings and other evangelistic events, but never experienced anything such as this. I am interested in seeing how this turns out.
I agree, I am so happy to see the outpouring at Asbury and love that it is spreading.
I pray it consumes this nation and the world. We all see what is going on, all the evil and sin and im ashamed to say im part of the problem, im a sinner. We need Jesus and the Holy Spirit to change us please continue Lord, please continue.
There is only one question
Whom do you say Jesus is?
An answer to prayer for me. In 1999, hubby and I were blessed with 4 new grandchildren in 5 months. Making our total at that point 6. I had made a vow that if possible the first thing my grandchildren would hear whispered in their ear was the Holy Name of Jesus and tell them how much he loved them. I wasn’t always the first but I tried to be faithful to my vow. (Memory has left me with the thought that I succeeded, but I’m hesitant to speak that). As I began to understand how different the relationship is with grandchildren, I felt God impressed upon me that I have a great responsibility to pray for them, who have grown to be 10+ and now 3 great grands. In my praying and learning I was led by the Holy Spirit to pray that they would be part of a revival generation.
My grands are now spread around the world serving in the military and learning of God’s faithfulness and unconditional love. And now just a few hours south of me a revival is breaking out. I’m sure others have been praying too, but back in 1999, I’m not sure I could see an answer to that revival prayer. And yet, I can see it and am humbled that He allowed me 25 years ago to hear the Spirit’s leading. Not taking credit at all but grateful that I hear His voice.
He is faithful and out of His unconditional love He is raising up leaders. Hallelujah & Amen.

There is outright prayer over the harms committed by the church. I learned that a few days earlier, a student wrote a prayer for acceptance of the sacred worth of queer students that was anonymously and harshly rubbed out, only to be rewritten on the board by someone else later in the night.

Ears to hear.............................
This revival is not preaching laden. On the contrary, it seems almost preaching averse.
When preaching does occur, it likely resembles the form of testimony in keeping with the mood of spontaneity.
I was at Asbury seminary from 2000-2003. The 70s revivals were referenced frequently.
Unless I read that wrong this woman’s main concerns are that the revival is basically too White and that the LBGTQ’s may not be being properly included and recognized. And she is supposed to be a conservative Baptist theology professor. If my reading is correct, then wokeness is alive even in the ‘conservative’ Christian world and if so, we’re screwed.
I hope my take is incorrect, but that’s how read her article.

Both are a gift from God. Many do not open the package.
Agreed. Or briefly: those of us on the outside should applaud it. Those on the inside, especially whoever is doing some of the leading, ought to every now and then speak up and ask for God’s Spirit to come and be more than just a skin tingling experience. We need God’s Spirit to move and change us in real and tangible ways and that we be crazy for Jesus the rest of our lives. Otherwise this revival would be just a temporary fad like disco and beanie babies.
