Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 4
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
Honor, Glory and Worship,
For Your Alone Are The One True God!
Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent,
Holy Righteous, and Just,
There is No One Like You!
Our Creator, and Creator of All That Is,
You Are The Great I Am,
And All Of Creation Vibrates With Singing of Your Glory!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

To this day, kids do an annual "Science Project" and compete statewide to be included in the Annual Science Fair. My first Science Project was about John Glenn, and his three orbits around the planet. I made a "Planet Earth" out of Papier-Mache, (an incredibly sloppy mess of a process!) and traced the orbits onto the surface. It was a Work of Art! I did not, however, become a finalist. In fine Dr. McCoy tradition, I declared, "I'm an ARTIST, not a SCIENTIST!" (Actually, Dr. McCoy was four years in the future.)
In High School, I did my Science Project on the "Psychology of Color". It, too, was a Work of Art, and followed the Scientific Method of experimentation and replication. I thought it was totally awesome, but my project was rejected because "Psychology isn't Science". Although I tend to agree with that assessment now, I was very INSULTED at the time. But, because of the "Dr. McCoy Principle", my Science Projects always seemed to end up being ART Projects. Oh Well.
One of my students did a Science Project in which he had a number of seedlings growing in little containers. He watered them faithfully, but used different water for each plant. He used Spring Water, Boiled Water, Microwaved Water, Tap Water, and Distilled Water. After several weeks, I asked him what his findings were.
"They ALL died!" he said.
I looked at the sad little remnants of his experiment. The soil in each pot was sour and crusty with salts and other nasty junk. There had been no holes in the bottom of the pots, and all of the plants had died from over-watering.
There is a huge Oak Tree in my yard. Oaks make acorns, and every summer the ground is littered with them. It is important to rake them up right away, because, if they take root, they are nearly impossible to pull out of the ground. There are always some acorns that escape my notice, and, by the time they are a foot high, it takes a huge effort to remove them. I do not "cultivate" Oak Trees. They do this all by themselves.
Today's Parable only appears in the Gospel of Mark. It is unusual for Mark to include something that was omitted by the other Evangelists, as he is known for his brevity. yet, here it is. Once again, we see The Sower, sowing the Seed. As we have been told by Jesus Himself, the Seed is the Word of God. Once the Seed is sown, its inherent Power causes it to multiply exponentially. When the Harvest is ready, the Sower is able to reap hundreds of times the amount of Seed (Grain) that He sowed just a season prior.
This Parable dovetails with the previous one about the Sower. While the earlier Parable focuses on the recipients of the Word, this one focuses on the Power and Efficacy of The Word itself.
My student's experiment with the seedlings illustrates the principle of the first Parable, while the Oak Tree illustrates the principle of the second one.
Both Parables are true and compliment each other.
My student's experiment also shows us another principle. If one receives The Word, but doesn't share it, it becomes stagnant, like the plants without an outlet. The plants would take, take, take, but never give.
The Dead Sea, the Salton Sea, and the Aral Sea also show this principle. The Gospel is written in Nature all around us, for people who have eyes to see and ears to hear.
And THAT is "Scientific"!

Psalm 38
A Psalm of David, for the memorial offering.
1 O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger,
or discipline me in your wrath.
2 For your arrows have sunk into me,
and your hand has come down on me.
3 There is no soundness in my flesh
because of your indignation;
there is no health in my bones
because of my sin.
4 For my iniquities have gone over my head;
they weigh like a burden too heavy for me.
5 My wounds grow foul and fester
because of my foolishness;
6 I am utterly bowed down and prostrate;
all day long I go around mourning.
7 For my loins are filled with burning,
and there is no soundness in my flesh.
8 I am utterly spent and crushed;
I groan because of the tumult of my heart.
9 O Lord, all my longing is known to you;
my sighing is not hidden from you.
10 My heart throbs, my strength fails me;
as for the light of my eyes—it also has gone from me.
11 My friends and companions stand aloof from my affliction,
and my neighbours stand far off.
12 Those who seek my life lay their snares;
those who seek to hurt me speak of ruin,
and meditate treachery all day long.
13 But I am like the deaf, I do not hear;
like the mute, who cannot speak.
14 Truly, I am like one who does not hear,
and in whose mouth is no retort.
15 But it is for you, O Lord, that I wait;
it is you, O Lord my God, who will answer.
16 For I pray, ‘Only do not let them rejoice over me,
those who boast against me when my foot slips.’
17 For I am ready to fall,
and my pain is ever with me.
18 I confess my iniquity;
I am sorry for my sin.
19 Those who are my foes without cause* are mighty,
and many are those who hate me wrongfully.
20 Those who render me evil for good
are my adversaries because I follow after good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Lord;
O my God, do not be far from me;
22 make haste to help me,
O Lord, my salvation.

My cousin did a science project on the psychology of color and it was accepted. Like medicine, psychology is a science as well as an art. And color does affect our mood and advertisers know all about it. And as an artist, you know all this already.
