Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Mark 1
John the Baptist Prepares the Way
1 The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,[a] the Son of God,[b] 2 as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way”[c]—
3 “a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”[d]
4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you with[e] water, but he will baptize you with[f] the Holy Spirit.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed, Magnified,
and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
How Blessed and How True is Your Word,
and How Mighty!
How Glorious, to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space With Your Word
and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Hallelujah and Amen.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

I packed the expensive keyboard as carefully as I could...a whole roll of Bubble Wrap! Since Electronic Keyboards do not come with lids, like a regular piano would have, it was important to protect those delicate keys from being snapped off or misaligned. The Keyboard had to go all the way to Texas. I had been on eBay for over ten years and was a Top-Rated Seller. Since I dealt in Musical Instruments, I had learned over the years that "Packing" was essential. The Buyer even had a survey to rate Sellers on their Packing, and I always got high marks. However, just ONE negative rating would topple a Seller from their high perch and send his listings to the bottom of the queue. Off the Keyboard went to Texas, and I eagerly awaited my sterling review.
Imagine my horror when I was given a NEGATIVE REVIEW with the explanation:
No Bueno. Sin Tapa.
I asked my Mexican friend what that meant. He said that it meant that the Keyboard was no good because it didn't have a LID. But electronic keyboards don't come with lids, and a lid was never included in my description of the item. My friend carefully helped me to craft a reply in Spanish asking the Buyer to remove the Negative Rating. He responded with a demand for a refund, without having to return the Keyboard.
I called eBay and explained the situation, but they sided with the buyer. Then I asked for a Supervisor, and SHE sided with the buyer too. I then decided that I didn't want to do business with eBay any longer. FINE. said the Supervisor. ONCE YOU LEAVE, YOU CAN NEVER COME BACK. YOU ARE BANNED FROM EBAY FOREVER."
Well, that was OK by me. Friends have urged me to re-up with a different name, but that is not my style. As Groucho Marx was fond of saying, "I would never join any club that would have ME as a Member!"
This morning, we begin The Gospel of Mark. Mark was a young friend of Peter's and is mentioned in the Book of Acts. While Mark may not have been an eyewitness to the events that he shares in his Gospel, he was with Peter, who WAS. (there is a very mysterious oblique reference to Mark in his own Gospel...see if you can find it. It's in the Garden.)
Peter and Paul had their differences, but they got along because they were blunt and honest with each other. When they disagreed, they let each other know about it. Nothing was insurmountable, however, and reconciliation was always possible due to the bond of Christian Love.
Mark accompanied Paul on one of Paul's Missionary journeys, and, unfortunately, bugged out. He went home, and Paul saw it as "desertion". When another opportunity to take Mark along came up, Paul acted like eBay!
Mark' older cousin Barnabas tried to intervene, but that just added fuel to the fire. It looked as though Mark would not have another chance, and was washed up forever. Perhaps this was a good thing, as Mark could have found time at home to sit at Peter's feet and listen, and then write what scholars consider the oldest of the Four Gospels. It is terse, concise, and without frills or coverings, or as they say in Spanish "sin tapa".
Just for the record, Paul and Mark were reconciled, as indicated in fond references in Paul's letters.
The Lion is the Ancient Symbol for Mark, and you will see it all through today's Art Presentation.

MARK 16:51-52:
"A young man, wearing nothing but a linen garment, was following Jesus. When they seized him, he fled naked, leaving his garment behind."
That top mosaic is breathtaking. Anyway:

Psalm 62
To the leader: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.
1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall never be shaken.
3 How long will you assail a person,
will you batter your victim, all of you,
as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
4 Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
They take pleasure in falsehood;
they bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse.
Selah
5 For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7 On God rests my deliverance and my honour;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.
8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Selah
9 Those of low estate are but a breath,
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
10 Put no confidence in extortion,
and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all
according to their work.
