I was only 16, but looked a lot older, and nobody was checking IDs anyway. And so, through a particular set of colliding circumstances, I was able to attend a number of concerts in a legendary dance hall called The Boston Tea Party. It was in an old building on Berkeley St. in the South End of Boston, now a very exclusive enclave, but back then it was "SKID ROW". I didn't care who was playing there, but just went to have fun listening to great Rock Music. Now, when I look back at the programs, preserved forever on the Internet, I realize that I was listening and dancing to the music of:

Grateful Dead, Chicago, Neil Young, The J. Geils Band, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, The Allman Brothers Band, Joe Cocker & the Grease Band, Led Zeppelin, The Stooges, Dr. John, Free, The Buddy Miles Express, Charlie Musselwhite, Jeff Beck, The Who, The Byrds, Santana, Taj Mahal, Ten Years After and Sly and the Family Stone. The venue, which had once been a Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and, when they moved out, a Black Baptist Church, had white walls onto which a primitive light show was projected. Above the stage was the last remnant of the last tenant, big letters proclaiming:

"PRAISE YE THE LORD".

It was a good thing that remnant remained above the stage, as it was a silent reminder that, no matter how talented and awesome a Rock Star may be, he (or she) is NOT to be worshiped. Only the One True God deserves that.

Very early in his career, the brilliant guitarist Eric Clapton was greatly distressed because of some graffiti in England that said:

"Clapton is GOD."

He quickly repudiated the graffiti and wisely begged people not to say such a thing!

There are a number of times in both the Old and New Testament, where a person is so overcome by some awesome entity, that he falls down and worships the Angel, or Messenger, or King, or whoever it may have been. Jacob did it, and so did the Prophet Daniel. The Roman Centurion Cornelius tried to worship Peter, and Paul had to fend off a crowd of worshipers who mistook him for the Greek God Mercury. John of Patmos fell down and worshiped an Angel, and was instantly rebuked. In all cases, the person (or angel, or saint) responded with something akin to:

"YIKES! Don't Worship ME! Worship GOD!"

It was a good thing they did, because, in the Book of Acts we read an account of Herod accepting worship from his subjects. Immediately, he was struck down with a filthy disease involving WORMS.

And so, when Eric Clapton stepped out onto the stage at the Boston Garden last September, he was greeted with waves of love from the 20,000 Baby Boomers in the audience. After all, he has shared his music with us for nearly 60 years, through his struggles with addictions, adultery, the death of a child, and even being deserted by his "friends" during the pandemic. But it wasn't "worship". We know that, and Eric did too.

As we leave the Gospel of Matthew, one thing sticks out. The Disciples fall down and worship the Resurrected Jesus. He does NOT rebuke them. It is at this point that He gives them The Great Commission.

If Jesus was not God, then He would have been struck down on the spot. But He had just Risen from the Dead. What More evidence did they need? And to that I say:

"PRAISE YE THE LORD".

I honestly believe God gives me ideas and I play around with them pictorially to compose quick pricks to thought processes.
