Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 27

The Death of Jesus

45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[c] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[d]

47 When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 49 The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

54 When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,[f] and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty God,
Abba Father!
How Blessed and Holy is Your Most Wonderful Name.
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised and Worshiped.
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The One True God.
How Glorious and Majestic You Are,
King of The Universe,
Ancient of Days,
Our All in All
and Rock of Ages.
Let Our Song Praise Your Saving Power
and Exalt Your Your Name,
Forever and Ever!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

During the 1980's, before the fall of the Soviet Union, my dear friend Lil was in Romania, bringing in Bibles and Christian Literature into one of the most repressive regimes in the Communist Bloc. My little ministry involved keeping up her mailing list on a vintage IBM Business Machine (an early computer the size of a trash compactor and a Dot Matrix printer), printing out and sending her newsletters to her supporters, and mailing personal care items to her, as those were hard to come by in Romania.

One day, I received a package from Transylvania, a mountainous region in that country. In the package was Lil's usual chatty newsletter, and a little wrapped gift for me. It was a hand-carved wooden crucifix, probably olive wood, that had a handle sprouting from the bottom. The handle was positioned in a way that one could hold the Cross in the manner of a "Vampire-Slayer" from Hollywood legend. Although it was never in her newsletters, Lil had told me privately that the People of Romania despised their dictator, and said that he was possessed by the "Dracula-Geist", which was an evil spirit. She sent me the cross to illustrate the darkness that these poor people were living under. These poor souls carried these little homemade crosses for protection against vampires. I hung it on my wall, as I did not feel the need to carry a "vampire-repellant" around. It was, after all, a charming example of Eastern European Folk Art.

The little Crucifix moved with me to Florida in 1999 and found a place on the wall there. because Florida has a large population of Central and South American People, the Yard Sales and Thrift Stores had lots of very cool "Ethnic" style crosses. More Folk Art for my walls! The collection began to grow exponentially.

In 2015, I moved back to Boston to help my Mom. She had some cool crosses too, from Ireland. These beautiful examples of Irish Knotwork were all the rage in Boston. People were even having the tattooed upon their backs. The more intricate, the better.

A neighbor, John (RIP) had been a Marshall in Southie's St. Patrick's day Parade, and he gave me a couple of them. Up on the wall they went. Soon I had to start another wall, as I had filled up the entire hall in my mobile home with Crosses. There were Mexican Folk-Art Crosses, Irish Crosses, Nicaraguan Crosses, Russian Orthodox Crosses, Greek Crosses, San Damian's Crosses from Italy, and Olive-Wood Crosses from Israel (both from Bethlehem and Jerusalem). My sister brought me a Moreno Glass Cross from Venice, and a dear friend gave me a jeweled cross that had been her grandmother's. The collection now spans both walls on either side of the hallway. I did not actively seek these, they just made themselves available to me through gifts, yard sales, and thrift stores. Most of the folks who gave me them have since passed away, but I have something to remember them by.

My brother, upon seeing the collection, asked:

"Do you have a vampire problem?"

To which, I replied in my best Inspector Clouseau fashion:

"Not Any More."

Now,of course, I don't ascribe any "powers" to the individual items on my wall. They are Folk Art, and are not worshiped or prayed to. However, they DO represent the REAL CROSS, the Cross of Calvary, which was not adorned with jewels, icons, Celtic Knotwork, engraved prayers, wise sayings, Bible Verses, or images. The REAL Cross was a form of Execution, the frame for immense Suffering and Death, and the place of Atonement and Sacrifice for our sins, Once and For All. (Hebrews 10:10).

It turns out that the Romanian People were right about their leader. After his execution, it was discovered that he and his wife had been regularly transfused with the blood of orphans as a longevity treatment. There were thousands of children in horrible orphanages imprisoned for this purpose. He and his wife were truly possessed by something very evil. While a little cross on a handle couldn't stand up to this kind of depravity, the Blood Of Jesus is Sufficient to conquer ALL of it.

And I have three walls full of reminders of that FACT.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Indeed. There is SO MUCH evil around. It’s sometimes easy to get discouraged.

But Jesus said:

“I Have Overcome The World...”

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Crucifixion With A Donor"
Hieronymous Bosch (1480-1485)

OW from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.

A longtime friend adopted a Romanian baby who had been starving. (I saw her when they got back—extended stomach, stick legs and arms.) President George H W Bush, the elder, helped get them and the baby out of Romania. They raised her in Montana. She’s doing well.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Psalm 9

To the leader: according to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David.

1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.
2 I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

3 When my enemies turned back,
they stumbled and perished before you.
4 For you have maintained my just cause;
you have sat on the throne giving righteous judgement.

5 You have rebuked the nations, you have destroyed the wicked;
you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6 The enemies have vanished in everlasting ruins;
their cities you have rooted out;
the very memory of them has perished.

7 But the Lord sits enthroned for ever,
he has established his throne for judgement.
8 He judges the world with righteousness;
he judges the peoples with equity.

9 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

11 Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion.
Declare his deeds among the peoples.
12 For he who avenges blood is mindful of them;
he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.

13 Be gracious to me, O Lord.
See what I suffer from those who hate me;
you are the one who lifts me up from the gates of death,
14 so that I may recount all your praises,
and, in the gates of daughter Zion,
rejoice in your deliverance.

15 The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.
16 The Lord has made himself known, he has executed judgement;
the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands.
Higgaion. Selah

17 The wicked shall depart to Sheol,
all the nations that forget God.

18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten,
nor the hope of the poor perish for ever.

19 Rise up, O Lord! Do not let mortals prevail;
let the nations be judged before you.
20 Put them in fear, O Lord;
let the nations know that they are only human.
Selah
