Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 26

Gethsemane

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,

Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!

You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,

For Your Alone Are Holy,

Righteous,

and Infinitely Just!

You Are Eternally Faithful,

and there is no Shadow of Turning with You.

Light and Darkness Can Not Occupy The Same Space,

and There is No Darkness With You.

Good and Evil Can Not Dwell Together,

And There is No Evil With You.

Yet You Always Judge Rightly,

With Grace and Truth,

Justice and Mercy,

Wisdom and Kindness,

Firmness and Gentleness.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

As I was searching the net this morning for commentaries about Gethsemane, I came across this:

So much has been written about Gethsemane, that I can hardly shed new light on it. Most theologians agree that the Passion of Jesus started here, in the Garden. I will confine my own commentary to the types of Prayer that occurred that night.

1. Solitary Prayer: Jesus was about to face extraordinary suffering alone. This was a time when He had to be alone with His Heavenly Father to pray. One can not even imagine the Disciples standing around the table praying with Him or even for Him, as He went forth on His Mission. While that kind of prayer (Sending Forth) is also a legitimate kind of prayer, it was not the the right one here. Jesus asked His Disciples to "keep watch" as He went further into the Garden to pray.

2. Prayer Vigil: "Vigil" means "keeping watch", and it is the root of the word "vigilante" A Prayer Vigil can take all night, and can be done in relay, as long as somebody is "keeping watch". It means waiting on God for an answer, and not giving up until one is received. It also implies NOT falling asleep. However, as Jesus said, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

3. Persistent Prayer: We wonder sometimes why Jesus prayed the same thing three times in a row. He is Omniscient, after all. He knew what He would suffer, but He also knew that He would rise again, conquering the grave. However, being Omniscient, Jesus also knew He , Who was sinless, would be taking on ALL the sins of the World, past, present, and future. The sins of all the hitlers, hamans, stalins, maos, mengeles, and just plain ordinary sinners would be piled up on Him, and He would actually BECOME sin for us in order for Redemption to happen. The whole history of the earth was building up to this moment of agony.

4. Praying in God's Will: Most prayers of "Thy Will Be Done" are done with a sigh of resignation. It is as if, in The Lord's Prayer, an big exclamation point happens after the phrase "Thy Will Be Done!". But, there is no punctuation after those words. In fact, they are part of a longer sentence:

"Thy Will Be Done On Earth As It Is In Heaven."

Imagine Planet Earth living in God's Will, just like it is in Heaven! What a beautiful prayer that is. "Thy Will Be Done" is a positive prayer, not a negative one.

Next time, when you pray "Thy Will Be Done," be sure and finish the sentence.

Much more took place in the Garden that night, but there aren't enough books or computer memory to hold it all. Our study of Prayer would not be complete without it.

Now, I would never paste such a latge quote without attribution, so here it is: This was from the Study on Prayer on this very thread over a year ago. Perhaps you remember it, or recognize the style. Somehow I felt very validated that someone surfing the net might end up on Free Republic, and perhaps be spiritually strengthened by something I wrote. Next month will mark the twelfth birthday of this thread, so I suppose it had to happen sooner or later.

That post was in the context of a Study on Prayer, but Today's is in the context of the reading of Matthew from start to finish. Context is always important, but the Word of God is Truth no matter what.

In the Context of the Narrative, we see how Jesus went from His humble Birth , through fame and acclaim, to now agonizing in prayer on the evening of His arrest. The story gets heartbreaking from here on. But remember, Without Good Friday, there can't be an Easter.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

All my life I could not think of the suffering of our beloved Jesus without crying. One day, in a dream, as I was gazing at his eyes full of pain, I heard his words: “Do not focus on my pain but rejoice in my Resurrection.” I can still cry but not with that awful pain in my heart.

My prayers, always. God bless.

I hear you! And although both of us LOVE Fine Art, there is not a single painting that can convey the absolute depth of Our Lord’s Suffering.

I remember in The Passion of the Christ, after Gethsemane, Jesus stomped on the head of a snake. So symbolic.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Agony In The Garden"
Adriaen van de Velde - 1664

_HEN cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder..
And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
