Brazil Bishops Denounce Violent Seizure of Congress, President’s Office, and Supreme Court

CNA Newsroom, Jan 9, 2023 / 15:30 pm The Catholic bishops of Brazil condemned the violent seizure on Jan. 8 of Congress, the president’s office, and the Supreme Court in Brasilia, the country’s capital.

According to Globo TV, these three branches of the Brazilian government are already under the control of law enforcement. There are also dozens of detainees.

“The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), disconcerted by the serious and violent events in Brazil, calls for tranquility and peace, as well as the immediate cessation of criminal attacks on the democratic rule of law,” the prelates said on Twitter.

“These attacks must be immediately contained and their organizers and participants held accountable to the full extent of the law. Citizens and democracy must be protected,” the conference stressed.

A large crowd, presumably supporters of now former President Jair Bolsonaro, seized on Sunday various areas of the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court, and Planalto Palace (the president’s workplace), which together comprise the seat of the Brazilian government.

Last October, Bolsonaro narrowly lost a bid for a second term as president to leftist Lula da Silva, who was sworn into office Jan. 1 and had previously served as Brazil’s president from 2003 to 2011.

The violent protesters are demanding the resignation of Da Silva as well as intervention by the military. Several videos show broken windows and protesters walking in the Congress building.

The Catholic clergy are the enemy of the people.

“the immediate cessation of criminal attacks on the democratic rule of law...”

LOLOLOL. Well, Bishops, I know you’re not exactly political science specialists, but when leftists decide to start stealing elections, there is no longer any “democratic rule of law”. Instead they have chosen the “law of the jungle” to rule instead. And once that happens, there won’t be any “rule of law” again until the leftists are driven out by one means or another.

I rather doubt that anyone who had read the book Lion of Munster or was remotely aware of the trouble gone to arranging the widespread propagation of Mit Brennender Sorge would come up with such an ahistorical bit of sarcasm.

It used to be that the clergy would point out government abuse. But now they’re all in.

Not all of them, but collectively the Bishops can be counted on to duck out in a pinch.

As one cardinal observed during Vatican II, the only instance of apostolic collegiality found in Sacred Scripture is “and they all fled”.

Good on Franz. Bishops are of some use up to a point, but the heights of sanctity generally involve accepting trials that require being carried by Christ down some fairly solitary paths.

Indeed.

You find few bishop-politicians on those paths. In a mild defense, they have their greater flock to mind.

Conservative are supporting the Brazilian patriots who peacefully protested for over 60 days in what might be the largest protest movement in human history.

Why were they protesting? They are protesting the election of a corrupt communist named Lula. Lula already was president for two terms. He robbed the country blind and was convicted for corruption and imprisoned.

Bolsonaro, a good guy, won the presidency in 2018 against a Lula protegee.

Just like with Trump, the Brazilian press and the worldwide leftist cabal critcised him relentlessly as if he were the second coming of Hitler.

The leftist, power-thirty supreme court judge, Alex de Moraes, sprung Lula from jail so he could run against Bolsonaro.

Lula wins in a sketchy election.

The patriots are outraged and start organized protests.

A January 6 style false flag was staged last Sunday and now there is a complete crack down and suspension of civil rights. Patriots are imprisioned without due process.
Now patriots are quiet. It’s radio silence on Twitter. Except for Brazilian expats tweeting from America, except they have no reach in Brazil, apparently.

The bishops have been silent throughout the protests and now they speak out against the patriots in an act of abject cowardice, taking their cue from the Holy Father, an Argentine communist, who is in great error. God help us.

An extremely close sketchy election.

In fairness to Pope Francis, he is, as I understand it, on the moderate-right of South American Clergy, and even further right when viewed as a South American Jesuit. And some Harlem Globetrotters are less hapless chumps than others.
