Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 26
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests 15 and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba, Father, How Wonderful You Are!
And LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name Over All the Earth!
You Alone Are Worthy To be Praised,
For You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe.
We Thank You, Father, For Your Holy Word,
Which You have allowed to be preserved through Your People,
We Thank You for Revealing Your Secrets Through Your Word,
To those who will have eyes to see,
and ears to hear.
How Wonderful You Are,
How Holy and Righteous and Just in Your Judgments!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised,
For You Alone Are The One True God!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

When Mom was just out of High School, she got a job as a secretary in a Defense Plant that made computerized bomb sights for B-17s. It was TOP SECRET work, and Mom had to go to the very limits of the Boston Transit system to get to work everyday in Watertown, MA. Because she traveled so far from home to the Defense Plant, she met a whole new group of people, from all ethnicities, religions, and walks of life. Often, she would bring new friends home to meet her parents.
Now, her mom, who was my Nana, was an excellent judge of character. She didn't care what religion or nationality these new girlfriends were. While very nice and polite during the visit, Nana would not mince words with her daughter after the friend had left. One girl in particular left Nana very disturbed.
"Stay away from THAT one, she said. "She is going to break your heart!"
Well, of course, Mom was insulted. How could she say such a thing about the very pretty and polite girl she had brought home from work?
Mom's job included Payroll. She counted out cash for each worker, based upon their time cards, and put the pay in an envelope with the worker's name on it. She did this secretly on Wednesday, to pay the workers on Friday. This was in order to be safe, because nobody did payroll on Wednesday to pay out on Friday. It was a little security measure that Mom had worked out with her boss, and only they knew about it.
One day, as she was counting out the cash, she heard a click. She looked up, straight into the barrel of a gun. Two masked men demanded the entire payroll, and of course, Mom complied. Who had betrayed her?
It was later determined that it had been an "inside job" and that the woman that Nana didn't like had been an accomplice. Nana was RIGHT!
Much has been written about Judas and his betrayal of Jesus. Why would anyone ever do such a thing? Historians try to mitigate the horror of the crime by making excuses for Judas. They speculate that he was a Zealot, that he hated the Romans so much that he was disappointed in Jesus for not vanquishing them on the spot. Others say that He had expected a Kingly Messiah, and Jesus wasn't delivering. Perhaps the most silly interpretation is that of the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar", which actually features Judas and his doubts as the driving force behind the narrative. Jesus Christ, Superstar, Do You Think You're Who They Say You Are?" Not too many cantatas about the Passion feature Judas as the Protagonist, but, there you go.
Aside from Jesus, there was one other person who knew that Judas was not to be trusted. That was the Apostle John. If you read the Gospel of John, you will see little "asides" about Judas that show that John didn't think much of him from the very start. One almost gets the impression that John was being a little "snippy" about Judas. But, of course, as the story unfolds, we see that John was right about the man's character.
How much, exactly, is Thirty Pieces of Silver? My studies show that it was worth about 120 Denarii, or the equivalent to four months wages. Not even a Year's Pay! And, it was certainly not as much as the entire salaries of a WW2 Defense Plant. Evidently, it doesn't take much to get someone to betray a friend, if the person is not a good character to begin with. John was RIGHT. And so was Nana.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 56
To the leader: according to The Dove on Far-off Terebinths. Of David. A Miktam, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
1 Be gracious to me, O God, for people trample on me;
all day long foes oppress me;
2 my enemies trample on me all day long,
for many fight against me.
O Most High, 3when I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I am not afraid;
what can flesh do to me?
5 All day long they seek to injure my cause;
all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They stir up strife, they lurk,
they watch my steps.
As they hoped to have my life,
7 so repay* them for their crime;
in wrath cast down the peoples, O God!
8 You have kept count of my tossings;
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your record?
9 Then my enemies will retreat
on the day when I call.
This I know, that* God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
in the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 in God I trust; I am not afraid.
What can a mere mortal do to me?
12 My vows to you I must perform, O God;
I will render thank-offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
and my feet from falling,
so that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
