Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 25

The Sheep and the Goats

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

I went to hear my nephew's band, and they were playing in a small Sports Bar on the South Shore. On the walls were lots of Boston Sports Memorabilia, especially portraits of Tom Brady with the word "GOAT" inscribed beneath.

I couldn't understand why on earth they were calling Tom Brady a "GOAT". What was that? Then someone explained to me that it meant "Greatest Of All Time"...an Acronym. Boy, did I feel foolish! It just shows how our language is constantly evolving...or devolving more likely.

Every time I log onto a new website, either for reasons of banking, shopping, health, commentary, or even just expressing an opinion, I am asked to create a Password. While it is easiest to have one Password for all my sites, it is not recommended, as there are some very evil people out there who would just LOVE to access all my data and rob me of everything.

Here are some of the rules of Password creation:

1. The Password should have eight or more characters
2. The Password should contain both Upper and Lower Case letters
3. The Password should have at least one Number
4. The Password should have at least one Symbol
5. The Password should be unique to this site and not one that you have used before.

That's a mighty tall order, especially for somebody with a 70-Year-Old Brain!

In the book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, this was the Password to access John Galt's wonderful power plant that created energy rather than consuming it:

“I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”

While this Password has more than eight characters, and is easy to remember, it doesn't have a number or symbol. It is also a bad Password because it was used on every device in Galt's Gulch, the secret domain that was a refuge for creative, innovative people who had decided to quit the world.

Galt's Password falls down on a spiritual level as well. Because Ayn Rand was an atheist, she saw government interference and compulsion as the only motivation for giving". Taxes, Welfare, Oppressive Rules and Regulations, and Enforced "Equality" were anathema to her. She had grown up in Stalin's Soviet Union, so this came naturally to her. In a way, she was right. It's not the Government's job to have everybody equal. If Ayn Rand were alive today, she would be aghast at "Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity"(DIE!) being forced upon our nation. Just as she predicted in Atlas Shrugged, the Government has become an agent of Oppression of the "Looters" vs. the "Creators".

The concept of "Charity" is rooted in both Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians (Chapter 13) and Today's Parable of the Sheep and the Goats. The word "Charity" is from the Latin "Caritas", which is the translation for the Greek word "Agape". That Greek word is one of at least five words for "Love" in the language, and means so much more than just that little four-letter word. Charity, if forced by the Government, isn't "Love" at all. Neither is it when it is compelled by Greed, Guilt, Social Pressure, or even emotional manipulation. When "giving" is forced, it justifies John Galt's Motto. If giving is not from the heart, it is worthless.

Jesus describes this difference in this Last Parable of The Olivet Discourse...The Sheep and the Goats. Jesus is very clear that Giving is from the heart, or it's not "giving" at all.

Ayn Rand was very prophetic about economic and social issues, but was not as smart about spiritual matters. Some conservatives think she was The Greatest Of All Time, but I would rather be a sheep than a GOAT.

As a side note. The government has now robbed us of being charitable. No longer when we give, is it “Charity”. Kindness, or sharing. It is now “giving back” as if ill gotten.
