Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 22
The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
22 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come.
4 “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’
5 “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. 6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city.
8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. 9 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless.
13 “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name over All The Earth!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The King of the Universe!
Ancient of Days.
You Are The One True God of Abraham,
and We Praise and Worship You with Our Whole Heart,
Soul, Mind, and Spirit!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Here are a few seemingly unrelated stories, that, after some thought, actually do relate to Today's Parable:
1. Right Garment, Wrong Place:( from a post in 2017)Back in the middle of the Last Century (I know, that's funny right there!) I was a Junior in High School and was asked out on a date with a guy who was a "Beatnik". His Mom (also a Beatnik and a Jazz Musician to boot) had tickets to a Chinese Opera, in Chinatown, in Chinese. Now, none of us were Chinese, nor did we speak the language, but this was a very cool and hip thing to do, so we went, and, even though we were the only folks of the Caucasian Persuasion in the entire building, fit right in because of our "Bohemian" Attire. Being tragically Hip, we sat and nodded at the spectacle and pretended to enjoy ourselves. On stage, the actors in masks and magnificent costumes warbled away in Mandarin. The action and choreography had someone who looked like a king draw a chalk circle on the floor. A toddler was placed in the middle of the circle. Then, two women, who looked like they were concubines, each grabbed a wrist of the child and tried to pull the child out of the circle. The child started to cry, and one concubine immediately let go, so it looked like the other woman "won". Then, the king took the child away from the victorious woman and awarded him to the the one who had "lost". Suddenly, I understood what was going on! It was a variation of the story of King Solomon. I shared my insight with the Beatnik and his Mom. It was our first, last, and ONLY date! LOL!
2. Wrong Garment, Wrong Place: In Brighton, which was only a bus ride from Downtown Boston or Harvard Square, there was a huge Victorian house painted bright purple. It was the headquarters of a cult that was popular in the 60's and known for their annoying presence at airports. Anyway, word got around that they provided an awesome vegetarian FEAST every Sunday afternoon. While most of the Boston Common Hippies were not homeless or hungry, the idea of getting something for FREE was very appealing to people. And so my friends urged me to try it out. "Oh" they cautioned."Women have to wear headscarves. But don't worry, they have plenty of them there to use." Being an ardent feminist, I never did attend the vegetarian feast. I was quite insulted that they expected women to cover their heads, and not the men, most of whom were so homely with their shaved heads and topknots that maybe they SHOULD have.
3. Right Place, Wrong Garment: As a child, I was indignant when I heard this parable. What if the guy couldn't afford a "Wedding Garment"? It would have been nice if someone had explained to me that the "Wedding Garment" was something provided by the host. That would mean that the guy wasn't wearing one because he had refused it. That would have been a grave insult to the host, the wedding couple, and the other guests. It was the height of arrogance, and the punishment did indeed fit the crime.
4. Right Garment, Right Place: We are all invited to the Wedding Feast. The ones originally invited refused to attend. And so we, from all Nations, Ethnicities, Languages, and Backgrounds have been brought in. This is not of our own doing, for none of us can "afford" the Wedding Garment necessary to attend the Feast. But the Host offers us a FREE Garment at the Door so we can go in. That Garment is the Grace and Forgiveness of God. You can't Fake It (like at the Chinese Opera). You can't Refuse it (like at the Cult Temple Feast). You can't make self-righteous excuses for it (like my childish interpretation of the parable).
It is an invitation that carries the inscription:
RSVP
WEDDING GARMENT WILL BE PROVIDED BY HOST
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM! And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!

"The Parable of the Wedding Feast" Jan Brueghel The Elder |
|
| _ | ND Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come. | Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
For many are called, but few are chosen.

Ah...thank you Dear FRiend.
My misspent youth has given me plenty of stories. Mostly from the 1960’s, which belies the slogan:
“If you remember the 60’s, you WEREN’T There.”

Psalm 43
1 Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause
against an ungodly people;
from those who are deceitful and unjust
deliver me!
2 For you are the God in whom I take refuge;
why have you cast me off?
Why must I walk about mournfully
because of the oppression of the enemy?
3 O send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God my exceeding joy;
and I will praise you with the harp,
O God, my God.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God.
