Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 19
The Little Children and Jesus
13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.
14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Blessed is Your Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
You Know Our needs before We Even Ask,
And Your Covenant Love is Everlasting!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Mom was expecting her fourth child, and it showed. As she pushed my baby sister in the stroller, I held onto the stroller with one hand, and, with the other, held onto my younger brother's hand as we moved as a unit with a practiced cadence. Gotta get that fresh air, you know!
It was summer, and nobody had A/C, so all the windows were open. As we passed one house, a voice came drifting out:
"Oh there's Ginny and she's PREGNANT again! Doesn't she know when to STOP?"
Mom was stunned. The house was the home of a supposed friend, who was prominent in our church. Her husband was the principle of a Public School, and I played with their daughter who was one of a "respectable" TWO children. How could anyone say such a thing? Mom diligently pushed the stroller, but I could see the tears streaming down her face. Soon we came to another house and a woman came out. This was Kate, the mother of another playmate of mine. She hailed my Mom and said:
"Hi Ginny! You look great. When are you due? You must be so excited to be having another baby! Come on in for some lemonade."
Now, I have one of those crazy minds that records memories like this in full color and stereo sound. I call these memories "Little Movies". Although I couldn't have been more than eight at the time, I still remember the heat of summer, the stroller, the neighborhood, the voices, and, especially, my Mother's Tears. Some things stick with you. I remember suffering with my Mom over the neighbor's meanness.
If you think that children don't remember these things, think again.
An unfortunate translation of this incident in the Life of Jesus uses the 17th Century meaning of the word "Suffer", as in "Suffer the children to come unto me." It implies that somebody is suffering, and maybe the kids are climbing all over Jesus and driving him crazy. In those days, the word "Suffer" merely meant to "Allow" or "Permit". Jesus would indeed SUFFER later on, but He wasn't "suffering" when he paid attention to these Little Ones.
In the same way that I recall my "Little Movies", I'll bet those children remembered everything about that encounter; the warm day, the sunshine on the stones, the voices, and especially the encounter with Jesus. I don't doubt that they remembered the indignant voices of the other "adults in the room" as well.
So, maybe there was some "suffering" involved. But, just as Kate relieved Mom's suffering with lemonade and kind words, so did Jesus alleviate suffering with His gentle rebuke of His Own Disciples.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Your post inspires me to see if I can find enough art to make a BibleArt thread for this text.
In the meantime, AMEN!

It’s hard to find good art for this passage, as most of it is of the Victorian Sunday School variety.
Why it didn’t seem to inspire the more prominent Fine Art painters is a mystery to me.

Psalm 124
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
1 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side
—let Israel now say—
2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side,
when our enemies attacked us,
3 then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
4 then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;
5 then over us would have gone
the raging waters.
6 Blessed be the Lord,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth.
7 We have escaped like a bird
from the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
and we have escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

That was a mean thing to say to your mother.
Ironically, the pro-choice crowd that cries “stay out of our womb” wants to control wombs of those who have children.
