Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Jesus Predicts His Death
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For whoever wants to save their life[f] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done. 28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
God Bless America.

Our Father,
Thank You For Your Provision and for Your Grace.

Everlasting, Immortal, Eternal, and Infinite,
We tremble in Awe as we Behold your Wonder and Glory.
The Angels Surround Your Throne
And sing of Your Excellence Day and Night.
The whole world is Full of Your Glory
Thank you Father, For letting us know You.
We pray for the Repentance, Restoration, and Renewal of Our Beloved Nation.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Matthew 16
Jesus Predicts His Death
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

A tribe in New Guinea was very hard to reach. When a missionary finally figured out their language enough to communicate, he told them the Gospel Story. He was stunned into silence at the Tribal Leader's response.
The Leader liked the Gospel, as it had all the elements of a good story. He stated his approval and then expressed his admiration of Judas, for his clever betrayal, his acquisition of money for his efforts, and his final decision to take his own life. (YIKES!). The leader also saw Jesus as a weakling who failed in his mission by allowing himself to be captured and defeated by his enemies. The poor missionary had to look again into the tribe's culture and see if there was anything he could say or do to correct this horrible misunderstanding. (I encountered a similar problem attempting to explain the Gospel to a very hard-core outlaw biker). The missionary discovered a certain tribal custom involving the exchange of a "Peace Child" to effect reconciliation among the tribes. He was able to use that example to retell the Gospel in a way that made Jesus the Hero rather than Judas. I read this story in a book many years ago called Peace Child, and I have never forgotten it.
Much of the Gospel of Matthew is dedicated to Jesus's public ministry. We see a detailed recording of The Sermon on the Mount, lots of healings, parables with the interpretation, and some great miracles. As I stated earlier, Matthew seems to be building up a case study of Jesus: as Promised Messiah (The Christmas Story), Healer, Teacher, Exorcist, and Miracle Worker. Now, Jesus turns His attention to His disciples, and imparts to them two great truths: that He is the Suffering Messiah that was predicted by the Prophets and Psalmists, and that He is The Son of God.
Even Peter, who just had a marvelous insight a few sentences before, finds this hard to swallow. How could their wonderful Teacher be subjected to a cruel death? Peter's initial reaction was "God Forbid!"
The rebuke from Jesus was instant and harsh. He knew that Satan would like nothing better than to derail the entire Plan of Redemption. What better way to do that than to use the brash, impulsive roughneck Peter to sabotage the whole process? As we shall see, this is not the last time Satan will try and use Peter.
We may struggle a bit with Peter's failings and faults, but he was only human. His big mouth had gotten him into trouble before, and it would again. But, I believe that Peter was motivated by an intense LOVE for his Master, and couldn't bear to think of harm coming to Him.
Nevertheless, Jesus knew that Peter needed a graphic lesson on the Nature of Immortality, and knew that what was coming next would be just the right thing. See you tomorrow!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 10
1 Why, O Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance the wicked persecute the poor—
let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
3 For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart,
those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord.
4 In the pride of their countenance the wicked say, ‘God will not seek it out’;
all their thoughts are, ‘There is no God.’
5 Their ways prosper at all times;
your judgements are on high, out of their sight;
as for their foes, they scoff at them.
6 They think in their heart, ‘We shall not be moved;
throughout all generations we shall not meet adversity.’
7 Their mouths are filled with cursing and deceit and oppression;
under their tongues are mischief and iniquity.
8 They sit in ambush in the villages;
in hiding-places they murder the innocent.
Their eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
9 they lurk in secret like a lion in its covert;
they lurk that they may seize the poor;
they seize the poor and drag them off in their net.
10 They stoop, they crouch,
and the helpless fall by their might.
11 They think in their heart, ‘God has forgotten,
he has hidden his face, he will never see it.’
12 Rise up, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand;
do not forget the oppressed.
13 Why do the wicked renounce God,
and say in their hearts, ‘You will not call us to account’?
14 But you do see! Indeed you note trouble and grief,
that you may take it into your hands;
the helpless commit themselves to you;
you have been the helper of the orphan.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoers;
seek out their wickedness until you find none.
16 The Lord is king for ever and ever;
the nations shall perish from his land.
17 O Lord, you will hear the desire of the meek;
you will strengthen their heart, you will incline your ear
18 to do justice for the orphan and the oppressed,
so that those from earth may strike terror no more.*

Ironically, watching the series of Fargo movies (Coehn brothers), the rival gangs used the Peace Child. A child from the African American mafia and one from the Jewish mafia were exchanged to make an uneasy peace.
Joining in prayer, left that other site, for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Amen. Praise God for leading that missionary to the wisdom he needed to deliver that tribe. May we all receive that direction from the Holy Spirit to bear fruit for His Kingdom.

I never heard of the “Peace Child”. Thank you for your commentary today. I googled it and read a thoughtful blog summing up the book and was amazed at how GOD works in the lives of men and women to fulfill HIS CALL: GOD so loved the world that He send His only Son that whosoever believe in Him would not perish but have Eternal Life. This same GOD who calls you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. All Praise and Thanksgiving to our wonderful GOD and SAVIOR.
