Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 15

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

29 Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.

32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”

33 His disciples answered, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”

34 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.

“Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.”

35 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 After Jesus had sent the crowd away, he got into the boat and went to the vicinity of Magadan.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father In Heaven,

How Hallowed is Your Most Wonderful Name!

We Love You With Our Whole Heart

With Our Whole Soul

With Our Whole Strength

And With Our Whole Being.

You Alone Are Worthy of Worship

You Alone Are The One True Holy and Righteous God.

Rock of All Ages,

Our Creator,

You Have Made Us,

and All That Is.

 Thank You, LORD,

For Causing the Truth to shine through,

No Matter How Relentless

Are the Attacks of The Enemy.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Mom always told us stories. As a result, we Baby Boomers had a mighty grasp of early 20th Century Life in America, from The Great Depression, World War II, and local politics involving James Michael Curley, the Kennedys, the Boston Brahmans, the Red Sox, Joe and Dom DiMaggio, Ted Williams, The Navy, Dorchester in the 1930's, the Irish Potato Famine, Beacon Hill, and many other topics. She also shared the stories my Dad told her about growing up on a fishing boat in Gloucester, mysterious inheritances, wild adventures on Tinian Beach (the one in Boston, not the South Pacific) and, of course, Dad's WW2 Sea Stories involving Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Occupied Japan, and the struggle against communism in Post-War China. We also heard tales about Korea, the Aleutians, and Cruises on the QE2. She was a big fan of Queen Elizabeth II, and had lots of stories about the Royals as well.

Since we grew up listening to these stories, we knew them by heart. A story would start, and we'd say:

"Mom, we've heard this one before."

That did not deter her her. Whenever someone new came to the house, whether it was a plumber or a caregiver, or even a potential sweetheart of one of her grandchildren, Mom would launch into her stories. Sometimes the plumber (or whoever) would become so engrossed in these stories that he would spend hours at the house after doing the job he was hired to do.

My Sister, who is also a musician, sings a song called "Story" which was made famous by Vocalist Brandi Carlisle. My favorite line in the song is:

"The stories don't mean anything if you got no one to tell them to..."

My Mom was running out of people to tell her stories to. At one time I had her write down her stories and send them to me in Florida, where I would publish them on my blog (now defunct). I got a lot of replies, and even was able to reunite my Dad with some of his shipmates from WW2. It was an awesome thing. Mom's stories connected with a lot of people. Many of her stories have appeared in this Thread over the years. And then, of course, I have my own crop of stories from my own adventures, involving Boston Art Museums, Motorcycles, Helicopters, Florida, Hawaii, the World of Rock Music, the Road, Israel, and Teaching Music to a new generation of kids. I try not to repeat myself, but there are always new people joining up on the mailing list, and they haven't heard the older stories yet!

A cursory look at Today's Reading might tempt you to say:

"Hey...I've already heard this story! You shared it just a few weeks ago!"

Indeed, the story of Jesus feeding the Multitudes occurs earlier in the Book of Matthew, and in all of the other Gospels. But Today's Story is a different incident, and is only repeated in the Gospel of Mark. The numbers are different from the other story, in the crowd, the available loaves and fishes, and the number of baskets left over. What follows will illustrate the purpose of the Miracle, which also differs from the previous one. The previous Feeding of the Multitudes showed Jesus as Provider. This second Miracle shows that, and more. It will show Jesus as a Prophet, warning the Disciples against "the leaven of the Pharisees". We remember how Jesus showed us how leaven spreads and grows. We will talk about that some more tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen !!! <><

Proverbs 1:20-33

20 Wisdom cries out in the street;
in the squares she raises her voice.
21 At the busiest corner she cries out;
at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22 ‘How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools hate knowledge?
23 Give heed to my reproof;
I will pour out my thoughts to you;
I will make my words known to you.
24 Because I have called and you refused,
have stretched out my hand and no one heeded,
25 and because you have ignored all my counsel
and would have none of my reproof,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity;
I will mock when panic strikes you,
27 when panic strikes you like a storm,
and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
when distress and anguish come upon you.
28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
they will seek me diligently, but will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
30 would have none of my counsel,
and despised all my reproof,
31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way
and be sated with their own devices.
32 For waywardness kills the simple,
and the complacency of fools destroys them;
33 but those who listen to me will be secure
and will live at ease, without dread of disaster.’

Facts tell
Stories sell.

Stories speak to us.
