Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Matthew 13
A Prophet Without Honor
53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”
58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Dear Father In Heaven,
How Hallowed is Your Most Wonderful Name!
We Love You With Our Whole Heart
With Our Whole Soul
With Our Whole Strength
And With Our Whole Being.
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship
You Alone Are The One True Holy and Righteous God.
Rock of All Ages,
Our Creator,
You Have Made Us,
and All That Is.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Some stories for today:
1. Multi-Level Marketing: In the days before Internet Shopping (and COVID!), there was a popular system known as "Multi-Level Marketing. Whether it was Make-Up, Laundry Soap, Crystal, Wood Decor, Vitamins, or Food Supplements, the Entrepreneur would find somebody to host a "Party". The Hostess would invite a certain number of friends and relatives and provide refreshments. The Entrepreneur would usually compensate the Hostess with gifts from the product line. It was a social event as well as a sales pitch, because the people all knew each other and it was a good excuse to get together. Some form of entertainment (games, contests, demonstrations, etc) would be provided (guidelines were provided by the Parent Company for this) and then came the individual sales pitch. Guests somehow felt obligated to purchase at least one or two items after a fun evening, and so the Hostess could get her gifts. At some point, however, People got tired of attending these "parties" which weren't really parties at all. Then, unless the Entrepreneur had recruited a crew of other salespeople to garner a percentage of their sales, the clientele would dry up and the Entrepreneur would end up selling the remaining inventory at a yard sale.
(Rule #1: You can't build a business just from Family and Friends. At some point, they will become exhausted, and you'll be out of business.)
2. The Rock Star: Judy had just graduated Berklee College of Music, and formed her own band. She was amazing, and soon had a huge local following. We heard that she would be performing at a small venue nearby, and our family had decided to go and support her debut in our community. When we got to the venue, the line to get in snaked across the street and around the corner. We heard that there was three-hour wait to get in. The gig was only three hours long, so we went across the street and ate at another restaurant. The band was so loud though, that we still got to hear her. And she was GOOD, I'll grant you that.
(Rule #2: If you are really GOOD at what you do, you will not need family and friends to make you successful...although it's nice to have their support!)
3. The Hippie Coffeehouse: In 1974 0r 1975 (I can't remember), I made my Singer-Songwriter debut at a genuine hippie Coffeehouse in Boston. My brothers and some of their friends came to hear me play. Incensed that they were charged $2.50 apiece for a cup of tea, which consisted of a teabag in a little steel teapot, they stayed politely for my gig, paid the bill, and left, taking the four teapots with them. When it came time for me to get paid, the owner said that he shouldn't pay me my agreed-upon fee of $10.00 because my brothers had stolen the four teapots. I was horrified, humiliated, and embarrassed. I said that I couldn't accept the $10.00 under the circumstances, and turned to leave. The owner relented, and said that I wasn't "my brother's keeper" and gave me the ten bucks. That was my first paying gig, and almost prevented me from pursuing a career in music. By the way, the Coffeehouse is long gone, but 46 years later, I still do music for a living. And...I still see my brothers very frequently and love them so much.
(Rule #3: Sometimes, family and friends can actually impede your progress, but you love and forgive them anyway and just keep on keeping on.)
Jesus had achieved a lot of fame around the Galilee region during the early part of His Ministry. Although His cousin, John the Baptist, was actively involved, most of His family stayed in Nazareth and lived the simple life of 1st-Century Middle eastern Villagers. We know from Scripture that His Mother Mary knew Who He was, but not so much the other family members, friends, or neighbors. They may have heard about the Village Carpenter hitting the road and preaching about the countryside. They may have even heard of His Miracles. But they had watched Him grow up, learn His trade, and now was famous elsewhere. When He came home for a visit, they naturally wanted to see some miracles from their home-town-kid, but they didn't have faith. Their familiarity had blinded them to Jesus's real Identity. While some family members came to faith in Jesus after the Resurrection (and even wrote some parts of the New Testament), this home-town encounter was a disaster. The Gospel is not a Home Sales Party. It is not a message that is to exhaust a small circle of family and friends and no further. Sometimes, family and friends will not accept the message at all, and one has to make a choice. Do I extend my "tent pegs" and bring the Good News to others? Or do I get rid of my remaining inventory at the next Yard Sale?
Remember, the Word of God will not return void. "Whosoever" may include friends and family or not. Just keep sowing that Good Seed.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 1
1 Happy are those
who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
or sit in the seat of scoffers;
2 but their delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law they meditate day and night.
3 They are like trees
planted by streams of water,
which yield their fruit in its season,
and their leaves do not wither.
In all that they do, they prosper.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Interesting points about family and hometowns.
I’ve heard this little ditty:
God mad the country
Man made the city
The devil made the small town
