Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 13
The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.
“Yes,” they replied.
52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Heavenly Father,
How Mighty You Are!
King of Kings,
And Lord of Lords!
You Alone Are Holy
You Alone Are The One True God.
Ancient of Days,
Rock of All Ages,
Let Us Never lose Sight of Your Sovereignty,
Your Majesty,
And Your Magnificence.
How Excellent is Your Holy Name Over All the Earth!
How We Love You,
And Bless Your Holy Name.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Two Stories Today:
1. Deadly Sushi: I love sushi. It's very expensive, because it has to be absolutely fresh, so it is wise to only eat it at a place you trust completely. That being said, there are some sushi varieties I will not eat. I don't like Octopus, Squid, Sea Urchin, or Abalone. I like Shrimp, but I think I shouldn't eat it because I get an allergic reaction, sometimes, not all the time, but it's better to avoid it. The one sushi I will NEVER even try is fugu. Fugu-Fish is a variety of puffer fish that is so poisonous that a person could drop dead in the restaurant at the first bite. A sushi chef has to train for years and be specially certified to be able to prepare this kind of fish. The poison comes from its glands that need to be removed completely without being ruptured, and, if even a trace of it is present in the flesh of the fish, it is more lethal than cyanide. Even with chef training and certification, there are a number of fugu-fish related deaths every year in Japan. They say it tastes good, but I think I'll pass.
2. Captains Courageous Wasn't Fiction: Clay was nine years old when he went to sea on a fishing schooner out of Gloucester MA. His father and older brother Jack worked on the ship (The Sadie Noonan, ) which was a part of the Commercial Fishing Fleet, and the boys went during Summer Vacation to work alongside their father. It was during the Great Depression, and there were bills to pay.
The nets brought in all kinds of fish, but Clay knew that the most valuable ones were the cod. They were huge, and when was pulled up onto the deck, Clay scrambled onto the animal, whipped out his jackknife, and cut out the liver. He knew exactly where to find it. He saved up the livers on ice till he got home, and then ran to the Pharmaceutical Factory, where they gave him a tidy sum for the nasty-looking jar of livers. These were processed into Cod-Liver Oil, which was supposed to keep you healthy. For years, mothers across America forced the vile liquid onto their children because "IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!" I can still remember the awful fishy taste and the even worse Fishy Burps that would soon follow. By the 1960's, Vitamin Companies had come up with new products that put Cod-Liver Oil on the back shelf.
However, in the late Twentieth Century, it was discovered that Cod-Liver Oil really WAS "Good For You" because of the Omega3 Fatty Acids and other nutrients it contained. However, new techniques were developed to deliver it in gel-caps and pill form, advertising "NO FISHY ODOR OR TASTE!!!"
So, Clay was onto something. And, sometimes, he made more money selling his livers than his father brought home from his share of the voyage. You probably already know this, but Clay was my Dad.
Years later, Dad saw the Wheel of the Sadie Noonan hanging on the wall of the Chandler's Office in Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut. It was a very emotional moment.
The last of the "Kingdom Parables" in this section of the Gospel of Matthew compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a Fishnet cast into the sea. Most of the Disciples had come out of the Commercial Fisheries on the Sea of Galilee. It was a tough life. Even a huge net full of fish did not mean instant profit. A bulging net could contain some bad-tasting, or even inedible fish, as the net just indiscriminately scoops them all up at the same time. The fishermen not only have to catch the fish, they have to sort them out as well. This Parable didn't need any explanation for the Disciples, so Jesus just asks them "Did you understand this one?", and of course they did.
Jesus had told several stories describing The Kingdom.
First, He told the parable of the Sower, spreading the seed far and wide. The receptiveness of the landing place was what determined whether or not the seed would take hold. The seed was good, but not every place it landed was right.
Then, Jesus told the story of the Wheat and the Tares. Once again, the seed is good. But there is an enemy who infiltrates and sows evil. It's hard to tell them apart at first, but eventually "you will know them by their fruits".
The story of the Mustard Seed and The Yeast can either mean the spread of the Kingdom or the spread of decay. Or both. Either way, people can relate.
Then we have the story of the Treasure and the Pearl of Great Price. The Kingdom is worth Everything you own, and yet, no amount of money can buy it. Jesus gave His all for us, and we can do no more than that.
Finally, we have the story of the Fishnet. The Fishnet ids the "Whosoever" spoken of in John 3:16. God desires that none should perish. Yet, there are those who will. Many are called, but few are chosen. Enter through the Narrow Gate. There is only One Way.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 13
To the leader. A Psalm of David.
1 How long, O Lord? Will you forget me for ever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I bear pain* in my soul,
and have sorrow in my heart all day long?
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
3 Consider and answer me, O Lord my God!
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,
4 and my enemy will say, ‘I have prevailed’;
my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.
5 But I trusted in your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.
