Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 13

The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,

Sanctified and Magnified is Your Most Wonderful and Holy Name!

You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,

For You Alone Are The One True God.
You are the God Who Sees Me in My Distress.

We humbly come before You,
as a body of believers,

on behalf of Your People.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 96

1 O sing to the Lord a new song;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvellous works among all the peoples.
4 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be revered above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
6 Honour and majesty are before him;
strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
bring an offering, and come into his courts.
9 Worship the Lord in holy splendour;
tremble before him, all the earth.

10 Say among the nations, ‘The Lord is king!
The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved.
He will judge the peoples with equity.’
11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
12 let the field exult, and everything in it.
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
13 before the Lord; for he is coming,
for he is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with his truth.

I knew I wasn't supposed to be reading Dad's "Argosy" magazine, because it said on the cover "The Magazine for Men". But, even though I was a little girl, I loved the articles about hunting, fishing, spies, war, mysteries, and adventures. It was in that magazine that I read about UFO's, Project Blue Book, Government Cover-ups, Conspiracies, and other mysteries. One particular article that captured my imagination was about a remote island in Canada that had some kind of treasure buried deep underground. The booby-traps and elaborate burial shaft that used an ingenious method of flooding with seawater, made this an intriguing puzzle. What on earth could be so valuable that these extraordinary measures were taken to hide it?

Some theories were:

Shakespeare's Original Manuscripts,

Marie Antoinette's Crown Jewels,

Captain Kidd's Pirate Treasure,

The Treasures of Jerusalem, taken by the Templars,

The Holy Grail,

The Ark of the Covenant,

and so on. Since 1857, treasure hunters have spent everything they had in order to explore the Island. The most recent owner was Mr. Dan Blankenship who passed away in 2019.

In June of 1973, my husband and I finally got time off from work to take a honeymoon vacation. We chose Nova Scotia as our destination, borrowed his family's brown Oldsmobile Delta 88 (fondly nicknamed "The MOOSE"), and took the ferry from Portland, Maine. After a 10 hour stormy cruise across the North Atlantic, we proceded to drive around the island, staying wherever we stopped for the night. It was a lot of fun. We sailed, rode horses, and looked at the sights. On the way back to the ferry after a week of driving around, I saw the sign:

OAK ISLAND
TOURS DAILY

I instantly knew what it was. I remembered the story from Argosy Magazine, and insisted we take the tour.

We paid the few bucks and left The MOOSE at the end of the causeway, while our host (I think it was Mr. Blankenship) drove us around in a Land Rover and explained the site. We saw all the various pits people had dug in the 120 years since the digging had started. He also showed us the cofferdams, foundations of old houses, and rusting hunks of equipment that had proven futile in solving the Mystery. A plaque memorialized the several people who had lost their lives searching for the treasure. There were no facilities, no visitors center, no museums, or anything else on the island. It just looked like a construction site, but our host was convinced that the treasure would be found...some day.

In recent years, a TV series has been made about continuing exploration of the island. Mr. Blankenship passed away during the series, and they still haven't found the treasure. However, every once in a while, something comes up the shaft: a bit of parchment, a piece of jewelry, a flake of gold, and a lead cross thought to be 800 years old. The search continues, now going on 160 years of people pouring money into "The Money Pit".

The story of Oak Island is a real-life presentation of Today's Parable. A man finds a treasure in a field. He buys the whole field for a considerable sum. After all, there may be more treasure there. Another man finds a unique Pearl of great value, and sells everything he has to be able to purchase it. Both of these men actually SAW the treasure before they bought it. The treasure was just sitting there in the field. The Pearl was visible as well. Both men recognized the value of something very precious, while others may have just passed by. Unlike Oak Island, which has been tantalizing people for 150 years and producing nothing, the Value of the Treasure and the Pearl are visible to those who have eyes to see.

The story does NOT illustrate that the Gift of God can be purchased with money. What it shows is that, those who find it, know of its incredible value, and realize that nothing else they own is comparable. The Promise id There, for those who will seek it, and doesn't kill, steal, or destroy life like the false promise of Oak Island. Treasure Hunters Beware. The Pearl of Great Value will not disappoint you like the "Money Pit" of the enemy.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Wow, left that other site!

I love The Curse of Oak Island—and the Fellowship of the Dig.

Rooting for them to find the Brave Tango.

Also, a bit of trivia about today’s verse.

In Star Trek, the Original Series, The Empath, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0708462/ , Scotty quotes part of this Scripture, the Pearl of Great Price. He is referencing the empath, Gem, in that episode, of course.

It’s like we are Pearl, and the man who sold everything is Jesus, who gave his life, to buy us and redeem us.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

I love The Curse of Oak Island—and the Fellowship of the Dig.

When I saw Mr. Blankenship had passed, I felt as sad as if I had lost an old friend.

Thanks for the reminder of the ST/TOS episode. There were a lot of Biblical allusions in the Original Series, and very few in the subsequent ones. That says something about the decay of our culture, I think.

I hadn’t either, which goes to show the buried treasure in every verse of Scripture.
