Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 13

The Parable of the Weeds

24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,

How Wonderful You Are!

You Alone Are The One True God,

Holy and Sanctified,

And Totally Hallowed and Pure,

So That the Angels surround Your throne Day And Night,

Praising Your Name

And Singing

 Holy, Holy, Holy

LORD God of Power and Might

Heaven and Earth Are Filled With Your Glory

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Psalm 3

A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom.

1 O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
2 many are saying to me,
‘There is no help for you* in God.’
Selah

3 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
4 I cry aloud to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy hill.
Selah

5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, for the Lord sustains me.
6 I am not afraid of tens of thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.

7 Rise up, O Lord!
Deliver me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.

8 Deliverance belongs to the Lord;
may your blessing be on your people!
Selah

On studying for Today's Devotional, I came across something I wrote in this Thread back in 2017.It was during a study of the Names of God, and the Name that Day was YHVH Rapha, which means "God, My Healer". The little stories coincided with the Parable of The Wheat and The Tares, especially the middle story. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! Here goes:

The bane of the Western Horticulturist (or even the suburban lawn) is the lowly herb called the Dandelion. here are three "Dandelion Stories" that have relevance to our Scripture today.

1. The Roadside Pharmacy. In my neighborhood there was an elderly Italian Lady who would walk up and down the street collecting leaves. Being naturally curious, I approached her and asked her what she was doing. "Dandelions!" she replied. "I cook, I make some salad, I make tea, and..." (she winked) "I make wine! It's good for you!"

I smiled with amusement and went off to play. "Imagine, that silly old lady eats DANDELIONS!" I mused.

A half century later, with the new craze for old herbal remedies, I have discovered that dandelion tea is one of the few things that help settle my stomach and helps me sleep.

2. The Heart of a Child Dad hated dandelions. The beautiful green lawns that all the neighbors strove to achieve (with hand-pushed mowers and scythes, back-in-the-day) laughed at our lawn, which was a sea of dandelions. Dad couldn't understand why they grew so abundantly in OUR yard, while all the neighbors' yards were virtually weed free. What he didn't know was that his 5 year old daughter was very busy eagerly sowing dandelion seeds by the MILLIONS, puffing on the seed pods to watch them sparkle in the sunshine and land...all over the lawn.

3. The Bitter Root. One does not eradicate unwanted dandelions by just mowing them. Even pulling them up is not entirely effective, as often the long, tenacious taproot stays embedded in the earth, and sends up NEW dandelions next season. The trick is, of course, to dig down, and get rid of every trace of that bitter root.

God created us and our world in such a way that we are all connected. Scientists call this "symbiosis", and it is also referred to as "The Balance of Nature". There is no such thing as a TOTAL "weed", as even disgusting insects serve as a food supply for birds and other creatures. The seas are filled with the tiniest of krill that feed the Giant Blue Whale, which is the largest creature on earth. God has given us the lowliest of herbs to serve as healing balms, from the nasty mold that gives us penicillin, to the lowly grasses that feed our cattle, to the very exchange that takes place between us and the Plant Word when we breathe. (We take in Oxygen and breathe OUT CO2, and the Plants do the exact opposite! How CONVENIENT!)

By the very way God created our earth, He is Our Healer. It's when things become out of balance and distorted (like when I blew a million dandelion seeds on Dad's beautiful lawn!) that things get out of whack.

The third little story, however, is the one most relevant to Today's Scripture Passage. Imagine trudging for days through the desert and seeing an oasis in the distance. You run there, only to find that the water is bitter. It's nasty. It's undrinkable. What are you going to do? Moses throws a "Branch" into the water, and it becomes sweet. In the Bible "The Righteous Branch" is another name for the Messiah. New Testament Believers also equate any mention of trees or wood with the Cross at Calvary, so we see a healing of the bitter water with the Plunging In of the Cross.

But what about that "bitter root" that the dandelion persists in sending for new weeds? Have you ever said, "Well I forgive you, but I will NEVER forget!"? That is the bitter root buried in the ground that will keep sprouting up to the surface if you let it. Like the Israelites in this Story, some folks LOVE to nurture the bitterness and actually like to complain about their hurts and disappointments! And worse, if one keeps nurturing this root, it can cause all kinds of PHYSICAL problems which can only be healed by giving it up to YHVH Rapha, God Our Healer, Who will Plunge right in and make the bitter waters sweet again.

In Today's Parable, the weeds are called "Tares" and they do not stick out like dandelions. In fact, they were more like crabgrass, which looks pretty much like regular grass until it shoots up and forms a head. With crabgrass, you can just mow it all to the same length, and it's all green. But the Wheat was a Food Crop. It provided nourishment for the the community. It was also a cash crop. It provided wealth for the farmer. The Tares were robbing the wheat of nutirients and growing space, but looked so much like the wheat that any attempt to pull them up prematurely would harm the whole crop.

However, once they matured and formed a head, they were easy to tell apart.

Jesus didn't just tell stories and then leave you to figure them out. Tomorrow, we will see HIS interpretation of this Parable. Stay Tuned.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen, left that other site

I remember pulling up young dandelions so my mom could make dandelion salad. I loved it. And the dandelion heads, my parents made wine. Very fine wine.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
