Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 12
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
How Perfect You Are!
You Alone Are The One True God,
King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
You Are Our Creator,
Our Father,
Our King and Our God.
You Are The GREAT I AM
Eternal, Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent.
And yet, You call us Your Brothers and Sisters!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

I mentioned Ann before, the LPN that went to Haiti. The church she attended in Boston had an outreach in a remote part of the Island, that was even more impoverished than the Capital City of Port-Au-Prince. When Ann saw the slide presentation, she KNEW that was where God wanted her to go. Now, before I continue, let me describe Ann. She was about five feet tall, about 100 pounds, and had long blond hair. She was always stereotyped as a frail, pampered, flighty, and immature girl due to her stature and haircolor (enough with the blond jokes!) Everybody was against her going to Haiti, including her family, friends, and pastor. But she was determined. She raised the money herself, and ended up at the Mission in the remote place.
When that particular mission collapsed due to inadequate funding, Ann just moved to Port-Au-Prince and started up again with another organization. As I said before, she stayed for 11 years, spoke fluent French and Creole, as well as several "je-jargons", or local dialects, and was there during nine different governments, earthquakes, and hurricanes, and the Clinton Embargo. Today, she is a wife and mother and has moved onward in her life. We may never know how many lives she helped save...or how many souls.
Christians of various denominations have been known to seize upon Today's Reading to prove one thing or another. While I won't go into the various arguments that are raised because this is a Devotional Thread, it will suffice to say that Jesus had some family members who didn't fully understand His Mission. That's OK. We've all been there. Mary knew that Jesus was The Son of God, but she was His Mom, after all, and probably couldn't help but worry about Him. The other relatives were not believers right away (but later on wrote some of the New Testament), and some may have sincerely believed that Jesus had gone off the deep end. Their concern was genuine, and shouldn't be disdained.
But Jesus had a Greater Mission, one that concerned not only His Family and Friends, or even His own People, but the Whole World.
When Jesus said:
“Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” and “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”,
He wasn't rebuking them, or rejecting His Family. He was, in fact, inviting us ALL into His Family, that inner circle of love and relationship that is far more intimate than any ancestry or DNA could ever be.
And that Invitation is still valid. Today would be a good day to RSVP.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 15
A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, who may abide in your tent?
Who may dwell on your holy hill?
2 Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right,
and speak the truth from their heart;
3 who do not slander with their tongue,
and do no evil to their friends,
nor take up a reproach against their neighbours;
4 in whose eyes the wicked are despised,
but who honour those who fear the Lord;
who stand by their oath even to their hurt;
5 who do not lend money at interest,
and do not take a bribe against the innocent.
Those who do these things shall never be moved.

I met Ann, or another just like her, while in Haiti. There were wonderful missionaries working close to the people. There were others who were not so much missionaries as local big house slave owners. I was there 5 times between 2000 and 2010 working with a school for deaf children and a church for deaf adults.

Indeed...a lot of people use their positions in third-world countries to their own advantage.
Then there are people like Ann, and even Mother Teresa, who are called, and have to defy all kinds of establishment authorities to serve God the way He wants them to.
