Published is 1976, The Forever War was the first time I encountered the idea of a Universal Basic Income for all people. I’ve just been waiting to see when such a crazy, fantastic idea found in a sci-fi novel would come to fruition. Here it is.

VATICAN CITY — The Vatican hosted a conference this week that brought together a number of politicians, business leaders and economists, many of whose views are diametrically opposed to Church teaching, to propose “integral solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic and climate crisis.”
The organizers of the “Healing Patient Europe” Oct. 7-8 conference aimed to discuss how denying the “very existence” of the COVID-19 virus and the “disastrous consequences” that followed could set a similar precedent for an “exacerbated climate breakdown, the migration crisis, the lack of intergenerational solidarity and intensified competitiveness over shrinking resources.”

Sounds like our venerable Church has been infiltrated and co-opted by the political Left — just like every other institution in the West.
Perhaps the Church should just focus on saving souls and preaching inherent in the Holy Scriptures.

Reference back to 2019 and the Finland ‘test’ of Basic Income, and it’s dramatic failure. Politicians at that point in time admitted that nothing changed for the ones who got on Basic Income...they just continued to live welfare-like lives.

I’m surprised child molestation wasn’t first on the Vatican’s list.
None of this modern nonsense has been pronounced Ex Cathedra and it remains human error as a consequence of disobedience and lack of repentance by those undermining Scripture and the adherence of the Faithful.
Regarding Universal Basic Income, and evil government-manufactured inflation aside, the Holy Spirit led Paul to teach in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 that if you don't work then you don't eat.

I hear a lot of the World and little of Christ.
And who is going to pay for it all?
And how do they propose eradicating a virus?
Let me guess they can claim it’s defeated and eradicated and we’ll be back to living with the regular flu and colds, just like we always did. They won’t be relabeling other viruses as COVID and scaring people into compliance.
What heroes the leftists are. They can work such miracles.
The Apostles have been replaced with the Democrats’ worst like biden and pelosi by other names. God in His infinite wisdom knows how and when this ends. Be faithful and hopeful, Trust in Jesus. Where else would you go? Lesser?
When I hear these evil people proposing a guaranteed income that is based on other people’s work I think it is almost time for the productive people of the world to put down their hands and see how the rest carry on.
