Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 6

Prayer

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10  your kingdom come,
your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us today our daily bread.
12  And forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation,[a]
    but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Lord and Heavenly Father

You Are The Righteous Judge!

You are Always Just, Always Fair, And Always Right.

Even When We Don't Understand

And everything seems upside down.

Your ways are not our ways,

And Your Thoughts are not our Thoughts.

For now, we see everything as in a smoky mirror.

But When we see You Face to Face, it will all become clear.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 35

Of David.

1 Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me;
fight against those who fight against me!
2 Take hold of shield and buckler,
and rise up to help me!
3 Draw the spear and javelin
against my pursuers;
say to my soul,
‘I am your salvation.’

4 Let them be put to shame and dishonour
who seek after my life.
Let them be turned back and confounded
who devise evil against me.
5 Let them be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them on.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

7 For without cause they hid their net* for me;
without cause they dug a pit* for my life.
8 Let ruin come on them unawares.
And let the net that they hid ensnare them;
let them fall in it—to their ruin.

9 Then my soul shall rejoice in the Lord,
exulting in his deliverance.
10 All my bones shall say,
‘O Lord, who is like you?
You deliver the weak
from those too strong for them,
the weak and needy from those who despoil them.’

11 Malicious witnesses rise up;
they ask me about things I do not know.
12 They repay me evil for good;
my soul is forlorn.
13 But as for me, when they were sick,
I wore sackcloth;
I afflicted myself with fasting.
I prayed with head bowed* on my bosom,
14 as though I grieved for a friend or a brother;
I went about as one who laments for a mother,
bowed down and in mourning.

15 But at my stumbling they gathered in glee,
they gathered together against me;
ruffians whom I did not know
tore at me without ceasing;
16 they impiously mocked more and more,*
gnashing at me with their teeth.

17 How long, O Lord, will you look on?
Rescue me from their ravages,
my life from the lions!
18 Then I will thank you in the great congregation;
in the mighty throng I will praise you.

19 Do not let my treacherous enemies rejoice over me,
or those who hate me without cause wink the eye.
20 For they do not speak peace,
but they conceive deceitful words
against those who are quiet in the land.
21 They open wide their mouths against me;
they say, ‘Aha, Aha,
our eyes have seen it.’

22 You have seen, O Lord; do not be silent!
O Lord, do not be far from me!
23 Wake up! Bestir yourself for my defence,
for my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 Vindicate me, O Lord, my God,
according to your righteousness,
and do not let them rejoice over me.
25 Do not let them say to themselves,
‘Aha, we have our heart’s desire.’
Do not let them say, ‘We have swallowed you* up.’

26 Let all those who rejoice at my calamity
be put to shame and confusion;
let those who exalt themselves against me
be clothed with shame and dishonour.

27 Let those who desire my vindication
shout for joy and be glad,
and say evermore,
‘Great is the Lord,
who delights in the welfare of his servant.’
28 Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness
and of your praise all day long.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

And lead us not into temptation

Once a year, all my students would have to cancel their music lessons for a week to cram for the FCATs. These were tests given at school to measure the student's achievement levels in order to be promoted to the next grade. If that was all they were, then there should not have to have been any "cramming" necessary. A measurement should have been just that, and nothing more.

However, there was more to it than that. The FCATs measured the whole school's effectiveness in keeping the students up to a certain level and affected funding for extracurricular activites, sports equipment, and so on. The more affluent communities always seemed to excel in the FCATs, because the parents were able to pay for special FCAT Schools and Tutors to prepare the kids. I was always annoyed by this because the teachers were "teaching to the test" rather than providing an ongoing education. I was not shy about expressing my displeasure, and the parents usually agreed with me, at least about the FCATs.

I heard a saying once regarding Temptation:

"You can't stop the birds from flying over your head,
But you CAN stop them from building a nest in your hair."

The 6th Petition is almost more difficult than the 5th. Temptation is bad enough, but why do we need to ask God not to lead us into it? One could easily wrap up the argument saying that "Temptation" really means "Testing", but that is not really a satisfactory answer. "Temptation" and "Testing" are similar, but not exactly the same thing. Perhaps we should look at it in light of Scripture, and compare verses that talk about "Temptation". First of all, in the Old Testament, God's People were being tested all the time. Adam and Eve were tested by God, and flunked the test when they were tempted by Satan. There is a big difference there. Abraham was tested by God, but in no way was he tempted to sacrifice his son Isaac. Abraham passed the test. King David was tempted when he saw Bathsheba, and David succumbed to it. If that had been a test, he would have flunked badly. He could have been out on the roof, and, seeing Bathsheba, averted his eyes, but we know that's not what happened.

After His Baptism, Jesus was "led by the Spirit into the desert to be "tempted by the devil". Jesus was being tested, but He was also being tempted. And what a temptation it was! Physical Wealth, World-Domination, and Spiritual Power, all rolled into one if Jesus would just give in to temptation. The Book of Hebrews tells us that Jesus was tempted in ALL things, yet was without sin (Hebrews 2:18). That makes Him our Perfect Mediator, because He has "been there". (Heb. 4:15)

The Bible also tells us that we will never be tempted beyond our ability to resist (1 Corinthians 10:13) and that God Himsel does NOT "tempt" us (James 1:13).

Even though we have all these assurances, it is still an ordeal resisting temptation. If Great Men and Women of God have difficulty reststing temptation, what hope have little folks like you and me? We can look to Jesus, The Author and Finisher of our Faith, for strength and comfort during times of Trial and Testing. He's been there and done that. He took all of our sins, failings, trespasses, debts, and weakness upon Himself at the Cross. He is Our Mediator, Our Advocate, and Our Champion.

Life is full of Tests and Temptations. It is important to know the difference, and also, To Whom we can turn during those times.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
