Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 5
Adultery
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’[e] 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Heavenly Father,
My LORD,
My Fortress,
You Stand With me Against the Onslaught of the enemy.
You Are Our Defense.
You cause me to stand tall.
I can face the enemy of my soul,
Because You have lifted me up.
You Have Placed me in a High place!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

As a young teenager, I loved "MAD Magazine". It wasn't allowed in our house, so I would buy my copy at the train station on the way to school, read it on the train, and ditch it before I got to school. One cartoon I vividly remember concerned an old lady calling the police about a neighbor. The first panel shows the woman and the officer standing in her living room. The conversation goes like this:
Old Woman: "Officer, it's a DISGRACE! My neighbor walks around stark naked in his living room!"
Policeman: "Ma'am, his house is so far away that I can't see ANYTHING.
Old Woman: That's because you're not using these BINOCULARS!"
I remember laughing out loud on the train over that.
Today's Reading is, in my opinion, the most difficult Passage in the New Testament. It is hard enough explaining it to Believers, let alone Unbelievers. It is so easy to misinterpret that most teachers prefer to scoot right past it.
One person who fell right into the trap of misinterpretation is former president Jimmy Carter. In 1976, he gave an interview to Playboy Magazine (BIG Mistake!) in which he cited this Passage. What followed was a feeding frenzy of the media, ridiculing Carter, and, by extension the Bible, The Sermon on the Mount, Born-Again Christians, and Jesus. It nearly derailed his presidential campaign. Now, of course, the media allows liberals to say anything they want, and reserve their feeding frenzies for conservatives, but times are different now.
My Dad had a much better take on this Passage. He taught me that, if there was something I really, really loved, but was causing me to sin, it was better to get rid of the thing I loved and do without it rather than continue sinning. That meant I had been sinning by deceiving and disobeying my parents and spending my lunch money on MAD MAGAZINE. Better to give it up rather than continue in sin.
At least it wasn't Playboy. But perhaps my Dad had a talk with my brothers about that.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Lord, we pray that You will help us with the weaknesses and earthbound traits that cause us to sin.
We pray that You will draw us closer to You.
We pray to extend Your light into a world where sin is celebrated.
Let us be light in the darkness.
In Jesus' name we do pray.

Psalm 5
To the leader: for the flutes. A Psalm of David.
1 Give ear to my words, O Lord;
give heed to my sighing.
2 Listen to the sound of my cry,
my King and my God,
for to you I pray.
3 O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;
in the morning I plead my case to you, and watch.
4 For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil will not sojourn with you.
5 The boastful will not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.
6 You destroy those who speak lies;
the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.
7 But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love,
will enter your house,
I will bow down towards your holy temple
in awe of you.
8 Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
because of my enemies;
make your way straight before me.
9 For there is no truth in their mouths;
their hearts are destruction;
their throats are open graves;
they flatter with their tongues.
10 Make them bear their guilt, O God;
let them fall by their own counsels;
because of their many transgressions cast them out,
for they have rebelled against you.
11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
so that those who love your name may exult in you.
12 For you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you cover them with favour as with a shield
