Isaiah 45:7 tells us that God creates calamity and Genesis tells us that He created Light and darkness.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
This verse distinguishes between thing that are created and things that are made. Three times in Genesis 1, the word created was used. He created physical things (body) then living things (soul) and finally man (spirit). It does not say that he created light in Genesis 1 or in Isaiah 45:7. God is light but darkness and evil did not exist

apocrypha, (from Greek apokryptein, “to hide away”), in biblical literature, works outside an accepted canon of scripture.

I did look it up an assumed you were referring to biblical literature. My bad.

I’m happy that you said yes.

You: Adam was created after the animals.
Bible: God found Adam lonely so he then created the animals.
__
I disagree, the Bible says that Adam was created after the animals (let Us make man in Our image). But Adam was still lonely so God created Eve from Adam’s rib (so that Eve would not stand above or below him, but that they would be partners side-by-side and she would help him).

Genesis 1, the Berean Standard Bible:

The Sixth Day

24And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, land crawlers, and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that crawls upon the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itselfd and every creature that crawls upon it.”

27So God created man in His own image;
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.e
28God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that crawls upon the earth.” QED.

and God let woman name the beasts of the earth, and Eve said, “That’s a thing there, another thingy over there, and the thing with the thing...”

and God said, “Perhaps man should name the beasts”

Belay my last, spellcheck replaced apographa with apocrypha. You say apographa I say apocrypha, let’s call the whole thing off.

Please forgive my use of Wikipedia (it’s a silly place):

Apographa refers to established copies or transcripts of certain texts, usually religious or ecclesiastical, rather than the original autographs by the original authors or writers. Again, my bad.

I was referring to the fact that the texts were copied by hand, over and over, for centuries. Lots of room for things to get lost or changed, willfully or not.

“Adam was still lonely so God created Eve”

No. God created Eve after all the animals failed the mating game.

-————God was sad that Adam was ALONE-———

18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky.

But the Bible has been preserved over the centuries and is inerrant in what it intends to teach. There were very few errors, the number of chariots in David’s army, for example, but each translation was done carefully and with expert precision, from the Hebrew Masoretic texts and the Greek Septuagint to the Latin Vulgate (Jerome, 380 AD).

Erasmus improved upon the Vulgate using both Greek and Latin to produce the first non-Latin Vulgate. Erasmus’s Greek New Testament and a new Latin translation (1516) was great success, using fidelity, lucidity, and purity of language as a guide.

Martin Luther translated Erasmus’s Greek New Testament to German in only 11 weeks. John Wycliffe’s English translation (1382) was widely distributed after invention of the printing press in 1450. William Tyndale presented the first English translation of the New Testament in 1526. But English translations were outlawed as heretical in England. Tyndale was choked and burned at the stake in 1536 for his effort to make the Bible available to working people. Ironically 90% of the King James Bible (1611) was Tyndale’s work. Myles Coverdale, who worked with Tyndale, produced the first complete English translation of the Bible in 1537.

The history with these translations is intriguing and I see this as evidence that God’s hand was working to ensure that his Word would be preserved. Tyndale’s last words to the crowd were “Lord, open the King of England’s eyes!”

You are providing a partial reference to Genesis 2 out of context. Clearly Gen. 2:19 is a recap of Gen 1:24-25. Adam was created in God’s image after the animals were created. Eve was created after Adam because Adam was lonely.

I am curious to know your background.

Your intelligence and presentation of facts are quite amazing.

While I do not agree with you the Nephilim theory that they are offspring of Angels having sex with humans, I find your apologetic arguments to be quite lucid.

Thank you, I try to present a logical and reasonable argument, using scripture as a foundation. I have always enjoyed the art of debate. Unfortunately social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook would rather shut down an open public debate than to allow the audience to decide.

The origin of the Nephilim is open to interpretation. I was wondering what your thoughts were regarding this topic. These Niphilim were giants (earth-born), mighty warriors, heroes, men of renown, Odysseus? Achilles? Perseus? Hercules? My idea is that many of them were good but some were very bad. So bad that they led humans to think evil continually and threatened the bloodline of Christ. God had to bring the flood to restore the order of things.

The angels who “kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day” (Jude 1:6), and “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment” (II Peter 2:4), that these angels were responsible for the Niphilim and for the flood, seems the best fit to me.

I have a BS in meteorology and an MS in physics with 30+ years of experience in research and data analysis. I enjoy studying the history of science, the Bible, Western Civilization and eschatology. Apparently my background allows me to learn about many topics of interest, most recently, epidemiology, immunology and virology.

I’ve spent my entire life filling my head with knowledge and hopefully a little wisdom along the way. I was never concerned with titles in this world, holding onto the promise of that which is to come. I am just another Christian waiting to go home. God has great things in store for us, of this I have no doubt.

So as in the days of Noah so shall it be in the last days, the angels that have been restrained will be released upon the world again.

You remind me of myself. However, the only degree I have from any university is in Business Administration. Most my knowledge is self taught. I have been told I have a high IQ, but I have never seen anything that would make be believe it. I am an avid reader, who finds technical knowledge more interesting than useless garbage. Although I am a big fan of mystery novels. I guess everyone needs a release from time to time, and I cannot always get out to fly fish as much as I would like.

Since school always bored me I decided to teach myself what I wanted to know. Mostly because many of the educators I have met are rather lacking in the wisdom department. Which tends to make them get off on tangents that are totally irrelevant to the subject at hand. I have a wide range of interests I have self taught myself from computer science to politics, history, science, theology, nature, and even topics that are rather mundane like the human interest aspects of life.

I started praying for wisdom and understanding many years ago. God has seen fit to bless me with insights into things that would normally baffle some, but seem rather logical to me. God created everything, even the things we think we created. Nothing HE ever created is evil, just the hearts of men. If we strive to understand HIM, HE will strive to help us understand whatever it is our hearts so desire to understand.

My philosophy is simple, as a born again Christian I believe it is the Christian’s obligation to understand the precepts of God and the workings of the World we live in and especially our government. I say especially, because GOD allowed my peep hole to be opened in a country HE has blessed to allow we the people to elect our leaders. Which means we have an extra obligation to assure those leaders are moral and just. Jesus tells us,

“Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves” (Mark 10:16)

It is with this understanding that I approach life, If we pray for wisdom, God will grant us the knowledge we need to know the truth. Then we will be able to properly rule the world we live in. Unfortunately we are often times ruled by evil men who despise God. These men think they have gained the knowledge needed to rule us, but they lack the wisdom needed to use that knowledge properly. Thus they have been educated beyond their intelligence. Solomon tells us,

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10

So with no knowledge of the Holy One, they cannot discern what is right or wrong, what is good or bad. Our founding fathers understood the need to know the Holy One, even if they didn’t all agree on the same theological doctrines. However to the man they gave Him credit to a GOD they all recognized as being the final judge, and thus gave HIM credit for our independence not themselves. They wrote our Constitution with His precepts in mind. They also understood that men needed to be educated if they were going to rule themselves. Madison is quoted as telling his fellow Americans,

Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives. So it is with this understanding that I feel it to be incumbent upon me to share with others that which He has blessed me with.

I will get in touch and give you my understanding of Genesis 6:2-4. It is in my head, but I never really wrote about it. Just hasn’t ever been a topic I cared about. Interestingly many have been talking about it more now than ever before. Maybe it’s because men are feeling their mortal souls are in trouble at these times. I will write something out and pm it to you. I would rather not share it publicly until I can do so in a proper way that truly sets my understanding on it in a way that would not be so easily misconstrued.

Thank you for sharing your story. The journey towards wisdom often involves struggle and doubt. But through suffering our faith is refined and yields a treasure that no one can steal. There is so much to learn from history, the personal stories of success and failure, innovations, inventions and discoveries.

Reading is an excellent way to gain knowledge. Some people are gifted and gain knowledge easily but everything I learned came from hard work. I share your interest in science, history, theology, politics, nature and philosophy. I enjoy a good mystery but mostly watching on TV. I’ve always preferred reading non-fiction, science articles, historical accounts, biographies. My favorite science fiction is Dune by Frank Herbert. I thought the 1984 movie was by-the-book (well done) but was not well received by the critics/public. The new two-part movies seem to be well constructed. I’m waiting for part II.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That is so true and our founders knew that. They took great care providing a government based on individual liberty with safeguards to prevent a collapse into tyranny. I am hopeful that the elections on Nov. 8 will lead us back to limited government and individual liberty. Mr. Spock once said “logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end. You must have faith that the universe will unfold as it should.” Not bad from a science-based perspective.

I will await your private reply, would like to continue our discussion. Good luck and God bless with future endeavors. Maybe we will meet on the streps of the great library in heaven. I heard it’s the best. God is good all the time. Time, space and all the matter in the universe cannot bring meaning to life. Only the irrational knowledge of faith can do that (see Tolstoy). Faith is the evidence of things not seen, the substance of things hoped for. God has chosen the foolish things of this world to confound the wise, the weak things to overpower the strong.

“The paradoxical passion (suffering) of the Reason comes repeatedly into collision with the Unknown, which does indeed exist, but is unknown, and insofar does not exist. But when I let the proof go the existence is there … this little moment, brief as it may be - it need not be long, for it is a leap” (see Kierkegaard).
