Belay my last, spellcheck replaced apographa with apocrypha. You say apographa I say apocrypha, let’s call the whole thing off.

Please forgive my use of Wikipedia (it’s a silly place):

Apographa refers to established copies or transcripts of certain texts, usually religious or ecclesiastical, rather than the original autographs by the original authors or writers. Again, my bad.

I was referring to the fact that the texts were copied by hand, over and over, for centuries. Lots of room for things to get lost or changed, willfully or not.
