The Conflict Between The West And Russia Is A Religious One
theburningplatform ^ | August 28, 2022 | Emmet Sweeney

The war currently underway in Ukraine, which pits Ukraine as a proxy for the collective West against Russia, is primarily an ideological or religious one, with Russia representing what is left of Christian Europe, and “the West” representing a totalitarian ideology that abhors religion in general and Christianity in particular. This statement may sound strange, given the fact that some Westerners – though fewer every day – still see “the West,” (basically Europe and North America) as Christian, and Russia as Communist, or crypto-Communist.

I might have believed it if Russia didn’t exclusively use Jihadis to take Mauriapol and Sievierodonetsk/Lysichansk.

Hundreds of video’s of Russian’s yelling Aluha Akbar before firing their weapons is hard to unsee.

This is propaganda for the gullible, and Putin see’s the Religious as gullible.

“Poland is so obviously more religious than Russia. Yet a true conservative in Duda is hated by the Putinas because he strongly opposes Russian imperialism.”

Yes, Poland is far more religious than Russia. As for Duda, he may be hated simply because he’s a Pole, and not because of his opposition to Russian imperialism. Historically, Poland has been held in contempt by both Russia and the rest of Europe. It’s very strange, as the Poles are a fine people, with many accomplishments that have benefitted the world. I think perhaps it might have something to do with its unfortunate geopolitical location, sandwiched between two historically powerful and aggressive neighbors; in which case it was considered acceptable to denigrate Poles, especially if aggression was being planned against them.

Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia started this war at the direction of "ex" KGB officer Vladimir Putin.

Everything about [your comment] annoys me, your smug and snarky tone, your appalling grammar, your complete lack of evidence to support your claims, and of course, the overarching logical fallacy that informs your entire position.

I see. You’re annoyed by a simple statement of truth.

That tells me everything I need to know about you.

Have a lovely day!

Total rubbish. 1. Russia’s alliance with China. 2. Lenin hasn’t been buried, he’s still on display in Moscow. 3. Zyuganov is one of Putin’s closest ideological advisors. 4. Massive Soviet throwback parades happen annually during the so called “Victory Day”, complete woth Soviet flags and the old Soviet anthem. 5. Putin favorably compared Communism to Christanity, and said we should become more Communist. 6. Putin said that the Collapse of USSR1 was the greatest catastrophe ever (it was actually a reorganization, see Golitsyn and Nyquist). 7. Putin praises the KGB, NKVD, Stalin and Lenin frequently. 8. Putin only said that Lenin should have created one total Soviet state with no quasi independent “republics”. 9. Statues of Lenin, Stalin, and other Soviet figures have returned to many city squares in the Russian Federation.

Bullshit. The Russian Orthodox Church is on board with whatever Putin wants. Church attendance in Russia is even lower than here in America. The conflict in Ukraine is down to Putin’s ambitions and Russian ultra-nationalism. Framing it as a religous or moral battle is for Russian nationalists and international socialists.

"Russia has reverted to its Orthodox Christian roots and has rolled back the more pernicious policies and attitudes of the Soviet era."

If the appearance of Russian religiosity is just a political facade to help Putin and the ruling oligarch look pious, then the argument that follows fails.

All Russia has is a theatrical, ceremonial state church with plenty of pomp and circumstance to reinforce a godless power structure.

I’m not aware of any time when actual Christianity permeated the Russian people and Russia, and surely not the KGB man Putin who now runs the country with an iron fist.

I notice that suddenly the Russian Orthodox church is heralded as Christianity’s true church and discussions of the state church’s treatment of Russian Protestant Christians, and discussions of we Evangelicals and Christians in America have all disappeared.

Evidently, all of us American Evangelicals and Christians no longer exist to the people who have embraced Putinism and his Russia.

Where is it in Putin’s life? Putin lives a decadent life and murders people who challenge his rule, plus being a typical conquering empire builder spreading death and destruction to glorify his reign.
