Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Exodus 9

The Plague of Hail

13 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me, 14 or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. 15 For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. 16 But I have raised you up[a] for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. 17 You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. 18 Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now. 19 Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.’”

20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.

22 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that hail will fall all over Egypt—on people and animals and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.” 23 When Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, the Lord sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the Lord rained hail on the land of Egypt; 24 hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. 25 Throughout Egypt hail struck everything in the fields—both people and animals; it beat down everything growing in the fields and stripped every tree. 26 The only place it did not hail was the land of Goshen, where the Israelites were.

27 Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,” he said to them. “The Lord is in the right, and I and my people are in the wrong. 28 Pray to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go; you don’t have to stay any longer.”

29 Moses replied, “When I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands in prayer to the Lord. The thunder will stop and there will be no more hail, so you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. 30 But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the Lord God.”

31 (The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. 32 The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)

33 Then Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He spread out his hands toward the Lord; the thunder and hail stopped, and the rain no longer poured down on the land. 34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts. 35 So Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the Lord had said through Moses.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Heavenly Father,

How Wonderful,

How Majestic,

How Glorious is Your Most Holy Name!

We Come Before You.

Not on our own merits,

But because of Your Righteousness,

Faithfulness,

and Love,

According to Your Holy Word!

LORD, Let us not lose Faith in Your promises,

merely because Current Events seem so skewed in the other direction!

We Thank You For Preserving Your Word,

And Your People,

To Show The World that Indeed,

Your promises Are True

and As Real As They Ever were!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

When I lived in Florida, I was delighted that I would never have to shovel snow again. And, even though some of my ancestors are from Newfoundland and P.E.I. (Eastern Inuit and MicMac), I despise snow in all its forms. I thought I was going to live in Florida forever, but God had other plans. Anyway, Christmas was approaching, the Palm Trees, Banyans, and Hibiscus were festooned with lights, and I had a bunch of music gigs lined up. I loved Christmas Gigs, and played all the songs, from "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree" to "Oh Holy Night". At one outdoor Christmas party, the kids were all gathered around me in their T-Shirts, Shorts, and Flip-Flops, and were dancing on the grass to "Jingle Bell Rock". Suddenly a big dump truck pulled up. The truckers spread a large tarp upon the grass. I had no idea what they were up to until the dump truck upended its load onto the tarp.

SNOW! SNOW! THEY BROUGHT IN SNOW!

The kids shrieked with rapture as they abandoned me and my keyboad and ran out to play in the snow...in their T-Shirts, Shorts, and Flip-Flops.

The Winter after I visited Israel, Jerusalem was suddenly hit with a freak snowstorm that left 17" of snow. The City didn't have the equipment to plow the streets, because this was a freak occurrence. For several hours, the City was silent and paralyzed until the Sun melted it all away.

In doing my search for images to go with today's story, I found this You Tube Video. It depicts an extremely rare hailstorm in a Red Sea resort town in Egypt. The hail storm was bad, but nothing like the one described in the Book of Exodus. But, as you can see, the people of the resort town were totally incapacitated by the hailstorm.

Egypt has nearly no rain, and all their water comes from the Nile. A satellite photo of the country shows the narrow strip of green that blossoms into a lotus-shaped delta as the River flows to the Mediterranean. A thunderstorm was a very rare occurrance, and a hailstorm even rarer.

The Exodus hailstorm was obviously supernatural because it didn't fall on the land of Goshen where the Hebrews were living. It just fell on Egypt. The Sky-Goddess "Nut" was totally helpless to prevent this destructive, discriminating, storm.

The timing couldn't have been worse, as two important crops were in bloom at the time. Barley was a food crop, and flax was a cash crop. Flax was also important to the religion, because it was made into fine linen, the garment of the priests of Isis and Seth. Those two gods were supposed to have protected the crop that supplied the vestments for their own worship services, but they, too, were helpless.

Verse 20 gives us a little ray of hope:

20 Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. 21 But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.

So it would seem that a few of Pharaoh's Officials were getting the Message. This shows us that, in every generation and every situation, God reaches out even to people who don't know Him so they can believe in Him in opposition to the prevailing culture.

Some things never change.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 145

Praise. Of David.

1 I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless you,
and praise your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall laud your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
5 On the glorious splendour of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
6 The might of your awesome deeds shall be proclaimed,
and I will declare your greatness.
7 They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness,
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 The Lord is good to all,
and his compassion is over all that he has made.

10 All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your faithful shall bless you.
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom,
and tell of your power,
12 to make known to all people your* mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendour of your* kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

The Lord is faithful in all his words,
and gracious in all his deeds.*
14 The Lord upholds all who are falling,
and raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season.
16 You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is just in all his ways,
and kind in all his doings.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfils the desire of all who fear him;
he also hears their cry, and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
and all flesh will bless his holy name for ever and ever.

In my entire 73 years I have witnessed snow falling just twice. That was plenty for me.

I know that God uses it for good and that our earth as He has designed it requires snow. Still....

AMEN!
