[Catholic Caucus] Southern Maryland parish forbidden to offer traditional Latin Mass after investing in quarter million dollar renovation and decoration for the purpose

[Catholic Caucus] Southern Maryland parish forbidden to offer traditional Latin Mass after investing in quarter million dollar renovation and decoration for the purpose

Nightmare and heartbreak.

Parishioners of Saint Francis de Sales in Benedict, Maryland, devoted to the Church’s traditional worship, installed a new pine floor, painted altars and gradines, hung chandeliers and lamps, and painted a monumental mural. And more. After an extensive professional renovation and painting of the church’s entire 100-year-old plaster interior walls and ceiling.

All to give honor and glory to God for the salvation of souls through the most beautiful prayer of the traditional Latin Mass.

By means of draconian cruelty they have been officially forbidden to pray as they desire according to their Catholic patrimony in their own church. This compliments of the hierarchy that boasts of mercy, Synodality, compassion, seeking the margins, listening, accepting everyone, rejecting no one, diversity.

The parish offers a complete weekly schedule of traditional Masses with the exception of one novus ordo liturgy each Sunday so that no one feels excluded or marginalized.

Who ordered the termination of TLM?

I’d nail some talking points on his door and then go someplace else.

This is why I refuse to donate a penny for the restoration of any church that isn’t owned independently of the local diocese.

If the diocese where I live were to shut down our Latin Mass, we’d simply sell the property and go somewhere else. This is exactly what “shaking the dust from your sandals” means.

It would be one of the traditional orders like the Fraternity of St. Peter or the Institute of Christ the King.

Say the mass in Latin, screw the ones that think they’re in control. If Libs have taught me anything useful it’s that sometimes you have to tell power to piss off and do things they way you want it done and force the MAN into a confrontation and if that confrontation comes be prepared to fight and fight dirty.

I’m sure there will be many more cancelled priests in the future and they would be willing to step in.

Look up Ireland’s “Mass Rocks” during the English persecution.

The masons, Montini and Bugnini, tried as they might to kill the Traditional Mass fifty plus years ago and failed.

This time, Catholics know better and with Bergoglio’s history of heresy, he’s lost all credibility as a “good shepherd”.

Why is the Church persecuting the Trads?

I’m not even a Catholic anymore, and I’m completely irate about all this stuff. It just makes me sick, all the pain I felt as a child, I now feel again.

Francis is a BUM. And Benedict lives to this day.

I'm a Lutheran, so some Catholic things are just plain lost on me. For the life of me, however, I think forbidding a Latin Mass is just weird and thoughtless.

How do you Catholics weigh in on this issue?

I have the same question. Are the new priests to uneducated to use it?

I am not Catholic, but I am big on worshiping how one sees fit.

I’m Catholic, and I’m a Latin Mass attendee. To many non-Catholics and even to many Catholics, Pope Francis’ war on Latin Mass seems weird. The responses I hear are along the lines of “Why ban a language?” or “In 2022, they should be glad anyone wants to go to Mass at all, so why shut down something some people like?” or “If they can Vietnamese Mass or Polish Mass, why not Latin Mass?” Superficially, these are great questions, but ultimately they miss the point of what’s really going on here.

The war on Latin Mass has little or nothing to do with the Latin language. It also has little or nothing to do with the fact that many of the prayers and practices are the traditional Latin Mass (1962 missal and earlier) differ substantially from the 1970 “new Mass.” This is a war on the people who go to Latin Mass. You see, the Latin Mass subculture within the Catholic Church is a bulwark of conservatism within the Catholic Church. These are people who vote for Donald Trump and staunchly oppose abortion and homosexual marriage and out-and-proud gay priests.

In 2013, Jorge Bergoglio (aka Pope Francis) came in as the great liberal pope, i.e., “the Francis effect” was going to spark a revolution of the Church finally “getting with the times” on homosexuality, birth control, divorce, etc. and the disaffected were going to come flooding back to the Church. That didn’t happen, and at some point in the last few years, Bergoglio became frustrated with his utter failure to spark a liberal Catholic renaissance. He has seized on a convenient scapegoat: the Latin Mass subculture. At every opportunity, he rants and raves about how these “restorationists,” including many American bloggers and YouTube personalities are “blocking the Church’s path.” In a sense, he’s right. The Latin Mass subculture he’s attacking does in effect oppose his liberalism. So he’s settling scores. Where he’s mistaken is in believe that his liberal agenda would have succeeded but for his pesky traditionalist critics. It would have failed anyway for the same reasons that liberalism has failed in every denomination in which it’s been tried.

God is in control. Learned that from the book of Job...but the devil may hit you with a whole lotta bad stuff, truly really bad stuff to you and your loved ones, permitted by and before God says Stop.

Patience and Perseverance where we are powerless, stand up where we have been designed to fight. St Francis prayer and all....the Saint, silly!
