Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Genesis 37

Joseph’s Dreams

37 Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed, the land of Canaan.

2 This is the account of Jacob’s family line.

Joseph, a young man of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report about them.

3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate[a] robe for him. 4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.

5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”

8 His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.

9 Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

10 When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” 11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

I will Praise The LORD at All Times.
His Wonders will forever be on my lips.
Dear Father, How Holy and Excellent
is Your Most Wonderful and Hallowed Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised,
For You Alone Are The Almighty,
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent Lord of All!

How Long, Oh LORD,
will the Arrogant be allowed to get away with their evil?
How Long will he be able to sneer and mock at YOU,
The Creator of ALL THINGS?
How Long will the lies,
the slander,
the propaganda,
the libel and the mockery be allowed to continue,
In our national leadership,
in Academia,
our news media,
our entertainment world,
our religious institutions,
and our social circles?
How Long can You Tolerate this Nonsense and this Wickedness?
How Long, Oh LORD?
How Long do we have to listen to Crazy Dictators spew
hatred and Anti-Semitism
in the halls of our own Congress, or the UN?
How Long, Oh LORD?
How much longer will we have to see
OUR OWN BELOVED America being Judged and Destroyed,
Economically,
Ecologically,
Culturally,
and Morally?
How LONG, OH LORD?

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

When I announced my marriage plans at a very young age, some people thought that I was probably pregnant. But I wasn't. The proof was in the wedding outfit that I designed and embroidered myself. It was in the style of a Ukrainian Embroidered Blouse, and took NINE MONTHS to embroider. So THERE. :-)

Today we begin the epic story of Joseph, who is my favorite Old-Testament Character. While some Bible Scholars look at Joseph as the perfect guy, and a "Type" of Christ, I see him as all-too-human with faults just like everybody else. As far as th typology goes, we will see similarities between the lives of Joseph and Jesus, and I will point them out as we go along, but the story can stand alone as a wonderful saga about family, jealousy, rivalry, betrayal, and reconciliation. If you have any special insights about the typology and parallels, please feel free to share them in the Thread.

We start out with Joseph, the son of Jacob's beloved Rachel, being favored over his older brothers. Old Jacob should have known better, remembering the heartache that ensued when his own mother Rebecca favored him over Esau. But, favor him he did, and visibly so. The "coat of many colors" wasn't a like the patchwork quilt illustrated in Sunday School books, but an ornate robe symbolizing authority. Knowing how much work goes into spinning, weaving, dying, and embroidering garments even in modern times, it is safe to say that the "coat of many colors" took weeks or even months to make. And it wasn't as if the family had nothing better to do. Life as a nomadic herdsman isn't easy, even with four wives and 13 kids.

So here is this 17-year-old who's his Dad's favorite, being asked to spy on his older brothers for his Dad, and wearing the ornate robe even to take a hike in the desert. Then, he has the nerve to share his dreams with his brothers, in which the obvious symbolism shows the brothers bowing down to Joseph! No wonder they were angry.

Now, here is some typology:

1. The Father's Favorite Son: Joseph was his father's favorite son. Jesus was His Father's Only Begotten Son. That is a parallel with a huge difference.

2. The Robe of Authority: When Jesus taught, it was "With Authority". This is noted several times in the Gospels. Joseph wore a symbol of Authority, but he was still under his father's roof, and had no real authority over his brothers.

3. Despised and Rejected: Jesus was hated for no reason. His betrayal at the hands of His Own "brothers" was the ultimate injustice. Joseph, on the other hand, was only human. While the brothers' betrayal of him was way out of proprtion to his "crime" of hubris and tattling, Joseph was NOT totally innocent.

Both Jesus and Joseph were sold for money, but the betrayal resulted in Jesus's DEATH, while Joseph was sold into slavery and lived.

And so, there are parallels but also big differences. The important thing is to remember that this is a story about reconciliation after an unforgivable crime.

And that's where the Similarity really takes hold.

By the way, I still have the Blouse, but I would never be able to fit into it now.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 32

Of David. A Maskil.

1 Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
2 Happy are those to whom the Lord imputes no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.

3 While I kept silence, my body wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was dried up* as by the heat of summer.
Selah

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not hide my iniquity;
I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’,
and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Selah

6 Therefore let all who are faithful
offer prayer to you;
at a time of distress,* the rush of mighty waters
shall not reach them.
7 You are a hiding-place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with glad cries of deliverance.
Selah

8 I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
9 Do not be like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
whose temper must be curbed with bit and bridle,
else it will not stay near you.

10 Many are the torments of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds those who trust in the Lord.
11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.

Thank you!
Oh WOW. Each one of them super beautiful. I would love so much to have some. But surly way out of my price range or skill, laf.

I am surprised at them being called “Ukrainian”. Because I would have thought them popular in wider geological area to include Russia, Poland, etc. I am going to have to get more educated on that!

Polish and Russian embroidery are similar, so you’re not incorrect! :-)
