Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Genesis 32

Jacob Prepares to Meet Esau

32 [a]Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 2 When Jacob saw them, he said, “This is the camp of God!” So he named that place Mahanaim.[b]

3 Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom. 4 He instructed them: “This is what you are to say to my lord Esau: ‘Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now. 5 I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, male and female servants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.’”

6 When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, “We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”

7 In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups,[c] and the flocks and herds and camels as well. 8 He thought, “If Esau comes and attacks one group,[d] the group[e] that is left may escape.”

9 Then Jacob prayed, “O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, Lord, you who said to me, ‘Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,’ 10 I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two camps. 11 Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children. 12 But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’”

13 He spent the night there, and from what he had with him he selected a gift for his brother Esau: 14 two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, 15 thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys. 16 He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, “Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds.”

17 He instructed the one in the lead: “When my brother Esau meets you and asks, ‘Who do you belong to, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?’ 18 then you are to say, ‘They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.’”

19 He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: “You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him. 20 And be sure to say, ‘Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.’” For he thought, “I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me.” 21 So Jacob’s gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.

How Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Glorious Name!
And How Wonderful You Are,

Rock of Ages,
Our Strong Tower,
Our Ever Present Help in Times Of Trouble!
Only You Are Worthy of Our Praise And Worship,
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent!
You Are Always Aware of Our Most Intimate and Fleeting Thoughts,
As Well As Our Place in the Global Scheme of Things.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

For years, the aging Veteran has lived on the main street in town. He had a sunshiny outlook, and to show his sunny disposition, he painted his house bright yellow. Then he painted his truck the same color, and dressed in bright yellow as well. He attended "Open-Mike-Night" in different locales every night, and although he didn't perform, he always danced to the music and supported the artists. He became known as "Yellow Man" and there was even a feature about him on a local TV News Program.

However, Yellow Man had a deep-rooted anxiety that belied his sunny outlook. He was a hoarder. His front yard was full of junk, and soon the town officials were starting to fine him and harass him.

The Music Community, in appreciation for Yellow Man's support of their music, banded together, hired a dumpster, and cleaned up Yellow Man's front yard. The old Vet was grateful, but within weeks the yard was filled up with junk again. Yellow Man stopped attending the music events, because now he was devoting 100% of his time collecting junk.

Another 30 yard dumpster appeared on the site. We had no idea who financed this one, perhaps a Veteran's Organization, but once again, the yard was cleared of the junk, saving Yellow Man from the wrath of the town yet again. But barely a month later, the yard was in worse condition than it had ever been before. At the present time, Yellow Man goes out every morning to bring home more junk. Occasionally, he will stop and talk someone's ear off about "The End of The World". It's really very sad, but nobody knows what to do about it.

Yellow Man is of the age that he was in the Service during the Vietnam War. It is possible that he suffers from PTSD, or some related disorder. Whatever the origin of his affliction may be, the problem of Hoarding seems to be rooted in FEAR. The inability to throw anything away because one may NEED it in the future, or may have some hidden value, shows the fear of not being in control. It also shows a mistrust of God, and the need to "hedge one's bets" against a cruel and capricious Deity, or perhaps, FATE. Either way, it sure isn't healthy.

Jacob had matured a lot in his years with Laban, but he still hasn't learned to "Let Go and Let God". He is still trying to control the outcome, which indicates a hesitancy in trusting God completely. God TOLD him to go back to his own People, and yet here is Jacob, splitting up his family into two camps, cooking up a scheme to bribe his brother Esau into clemency, and attempting to manipulate the situation. In effect, Jacob is not trusting God, and even suspecting God of "setting him up."

While proper precautions are appropriate, such as making sure your family are protected and have enough food and water for emergencies, hoarding and manipulation are indicative of mistrust. Jesus said, "Lay not treasures up on earth where moth and rust destroy, but lay up treasures in Heaven..." (Matthew 6)

Jacob continues to wrestle with God, and tomorrow we will see this wrestling come to a climax.

I will keep Yellow Man in my prayers. Is there a Veteran Organization that could help him with his problems?

My prayers always for Israel and the World. God bless.

Actually, the Auto Glass company across the street has set up a gofundme page and I think some Veterans Organizations are also involved. Yellow Man is a really sweet guy, but the junk is getting really bad.

It seems that he used to make his living doing metal recycling, but there is no money in that anymore, so it just piles up.

I was feeling a little guilty telling his story as an example, but it has caused the good folks on this site to PRAY for him, which is really terrific.l

Psalm 35

Of David.

1 Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me;
fight against those who fight against me!
2 Take hold of shield and buckler,
and rise up to help me!
3 Draw the spear and javelin
against my pursuers;
say to my soul,
‘I am your salvation.’

4 Let them be put to shame and dishonour
who seek after my life.
Let them be turned back and confounded
who devise evil against me.
5 Let them be like chaff before the wind,
with the angel of the Lord driving them on.
6 Let their way be dark and slippery,
with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.

7 For without cause they hid their net* for me;
without cause they dug a pit* for my life.
8 Let ruin come on them unawares.
And let the net that they hid ensnare them;
let them fall in it—to their ruin.

9 Then my soul shall rejoice in the Lord,
exulting in his deliverance.
10 All my bones shall say,
‘O Lord, who is like you?
You deliver the weak
from those too strong for them,
the weak and needy from those who despoil them.’

11 Malicious witnesses rise up;
they ask me about things I do not know.
12 They repay me evil for good;
my soul is forlorn.
13 But as for me, when they were sick,
I wore sackcloth;
I afflicted myself with fasting.
I prayed with head bowed* on my bosom,
14 as though I grieved for a friend or a brother;
I went about as one who laments for a mother,
bowed down and in mourning.

15 But at my stumbling they gathered in glee,
they gathered together against me;
ruffians whom I did not know
tore at me without ceasing;
16 they impiously mocked more and more,*
gnashing at me with their teeth.

17 How long, O Lord, will you look on?
Rescue me from their ravages,
my life from the lions!
18 Then I will thank you in the great congregation;
in the mighty throng I will praise you.

19 Do not let my treacherous enemies rejoice over me,
or those who hate me without cause wink the eye.
20 For they do not speak peace,
but they conceive deceitful words
against those who are quiet in the land.
21 They open wide their mouths against me;
they say, ‘Aha, Aha,
our eyes have seen it.’

22 You have seen, O Lord; do not be silent!
O Lord, do not be far from me!
23 Wake up! Bestir yourself for my defence,
for my cause, my God and my Lord!
24 Vindicate me, O Lord, my God,
according to your righteousness,
and do not let them rejoice over me.
25 Do not let them say to themselves,
‘Aha, we have our heart’s desire.’
Do not let them say, ‘We have swallowed you* up.’

26 Let all those who rejoice at my calamity
be put to shame and confusion;
let those who exalt themselves against me
be clothed with shame and dishonour.

27 Let those who desire my vindication
shout for joy and be glad,
and say evermore,
‘Great is the Lord,
who delights in the welfare of his servant.’
28 Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness
and of your praise all day long.
