Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Genesis 29

Jacob’s Children

31 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless. 32 Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben,[b] for she said, “It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now.”

33 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too.” So she named him Simeon.[c]

34 Again she conceived, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.[d]

35 She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, “This time I will praise the Lord.” So she named him Judah.[e] Then she stopped having children.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent is Your Name over all the Earth!
How Wonderful You Are,
How Magnificent,
and How Glorious!
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name,
And from Generation to Generation,
Shall all People Call You Great and Wonderful!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

My Auntie worked in the Public Library in the Inner City. One of her jobs was issuing Library Cards to the children in the Projects near the Library.

The little kids were adorable, but they all had weird, unpronounceable names. It caused no end of difficulty (and some amusement) to my Auntie, who was very old-school and prosaic where names were concerned.

This was years before the Black Community started using African Names, and so the names were variations on English words that didn't seem to make sense. But who knows. maybe the awkward names were descriptive of a situation, such as the little girl named "Catastrophe", or the little boy named "Precioussest". In any case, those poor kids were facing life with those kind of names. I guess people are naming their children even stranger things now.

Whether Jacob's household consisted of one big tent or a cluster of smaller ones, I can't imagine that it was a harmonious home. Not only were the sisters rival wives, but one was infertile and the other was having a new son every year or so. The fertile wife, Leah, knew she was unloved (emotionally that is, obviously not physically), and named her new babies according to her own emotional distress. It seems that Jacob had no interest in even naming these children, as Leah's names were constructs that sounded like the Hebrew for things like, "See, a SON!" or ""Maybe this will attach me" or, "God has heard me in my distress". You get the picture. The only one of the four whose name doesn't sound agenda-driven is Judah, meaning "Praise the Lord". It is the name that will become the name of Jacob's People to this day. For centuries, the people would carry the name of Jacob, which God changed to Israel after Jacob "Wrestled with God". In fact, that is what the word "Israelite" means. Many years later, after the division of the Kingdom into Israel and Judah, we see the two names in seeming opposition.

Finally, around the time of the Babylonian Captivity, the Israelites were now know by a new name. Instead of "Wrestlers with God", they became "Praisers of God". The People carry this name right up to this very day. The word "Judah" has been changed and adapted in to many languages. It has been used as a Political Label, an Ethnic Group, a Religion, and a Nation.

It's definition has been argued over for centuries, and people disagree on who actually fits into the category of the word.

The word derived from Judah is the word "Jews". Because of the evils of antisemitism, the word has become so charged that some prefer to say "Jewish People" instead.

And so, when Leah finally gave her fourth son a decent name that wasn't based on her own misery, she gave him a name that would become the Ancestor of King David, and The Messiah, the "Lion of the Tribe of Judah".

Be careful what you name your kids. It matters.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 65

To the leader. A Psalm of David. A Song.

1 Praise is due to you,
O God, in Zion;
and to you shall vows be performed,
2 O you who answer prayer!
To you all flesh shall come.
3 When deeds of iniquity overwhelm us,
you forgive our transgressions.
4 Happy are those whom you choose and bring near
to live in your courts.
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,
your holy temple.

5 By awesome deeds you answer us with deliverance,
O God of our salvation;
you are the hope of all the ends of the earth
and of the farthest seas.
6 By your* strength you established the mountains;
you are girded with might.
7 You silence the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
the tumult of the peoples.
8 Those who live at earth’s farthest bounds are awed by your signs;
you make the gateways of the morning and the evening shout for joy.

9 You visit the earth and water it,
you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
you provide the people with grain,
for so you have prepared it.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
and blessing its growth.
11 You crown the year with your bounty;
your wagon tracks overflow with richness.
12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow,
the hills gird themselves with joy,
13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,
the valleys deck themselves with grain,
they shout and sing together for joy.

"THE MEETING OF JACOB WITH RACHEL AND LEAH"
Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino

_ND And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

32 And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
