A Chicago Catholic parish is facing questions after the pastor allowed a couple in a same-sex marriage to offer a “reflection” in lieu of the homily at a June 19 Mass.
The parish, Old St. Patrick’s, is a historic and prominent parish on Chicago’s west loop. The priest celebrating the Mass, Father Joe Roccasalva, introduced the two men immediately after proclaiming the Gospel and said they were to give a Father’s Day “Gospel reflection.” According to canon law, laypeople are not allowed to preach homilies during Mass — only the ordained, meaning priests, bishops, and deacons, are allowed to do so.
Upon taking the lectern, Alex Shingleton and Landon Duyka — who say they have been members of the parish for a decade — described their same-sex marriage as a “blessing” and the adoption of their two children as “miracles.”
“Let’s be honest, there are probably not too many gay dads speaking on Father’s Day at many Catholic Churches on the planet today,” one of the men said.
Later in the presentation, one of the men stated: “We wanted to raise our children in the Catholic Church…On the other hand, we didn’t want to expose our children to bigotry and have them feel any shame or intolerance about their family.”

Unrepentant sinners do not qualify to preach.

Sodomites in the Pulpit!
Drap them in the rainbow flag.
Make sure and invite a few staff from the Saudi Embassy.
I mean this redfinition of morality by way of the virtue signaling against the traditional teachings can be pretty overwhelming to some.
My late Dad switched churches because of it.Went from Methodist straight over to the strict the Episcopalian at the time. Now he would have nowhere to go.
So how do we virtue signal to the Divine? These days it must be a bad joke to see the disorder caused by it. Now children do not know if they are boys or girls.Or in between.
In the face of death and afterward, does sexual orientation matter so much? Somehow I doubt it.Surely not ebough to preach it from the pulpit. There are many sins , so why not let each one have equal time?
My understanding, as sort of referenced in the article, is that the church actually calls it’s a “license to preach,” and only ordained clergy, including deacons, can be licensed. We’ve all heard from time things a missionary nun. A representative of the Catholic school appealing for funds, etc. the error comes in connecting a non-clerical speaker’s talk to the Gospel. This is a clear violation of canon law and the priest should be disciplined. I’m not holding my breath
And I suppose the congregants just sat there and took it. None of them know their Bible well enough to respond.
Sad and pathetic.
Funny. When I saw “Chicago Catholic parish”, I immediately figured Father Phleger since he would be the type to do this sort of thing. But I guess there are plenty of other priests prone to this outright sacrilege.
Blaise Cupich is in charge of this crap show in Chicago so nothing will be done to discipline this priest. Our Church is in serious trouble. Our leadership is totally corrupt. Come Lord Jesus.
Is it OK as long as they didn’t do it in Latin?
“Old St. Patrick’s” has been Far Left for many years. The Pastors always thought that by being Left and not talking about religion or sin, they would attract more young single people living downtown.
What a mess it all is. Jesus is our best hope. He is our only hope.
