Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Genesis 28

28 So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman. 2 Go at once to Paddan Aram,[a] to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother. 3 May God Almighty[b] bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. 4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.” 5 Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.

6 Now Esau learned that Isaac had blessed Jacob and had sent him to Paddan Aram to take a wife from there, and that when he blessed him he commanded him, “Do not marry a Canaanite woman,” 7 and that Jacob had obeyed his father and mother and had gone to Paddan Aram. 8 Esau then realized how displeasing the Canaanite women were to his father Isaac; 9 so he went to Ishmael and married Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and daughter of Ishmael son of Abraham, in addition to the wives he already had.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father Who Art in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified
Is Your Most Holy Name!
How Blessed Are You,
Oh LORD, Our God,
King of The Universe,
Who Has Brought Us To This Day!
We Come into Your Presence With Singing
And into Your Courts With Praise,
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The Host High,
You Alone Are The LORD of Hosts,
And You Alone Hold The Power of Life and Death in Your Hand.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

A pivotal scene in the Epic Movie "Gone With The Wind" depicts an exhausted, famished Scarlet O'Hara digging through the remains of her ruined vegetable garden . She finds a filthy, stunted, mis-shapen carrot and gobbles it down, and then THROWS UP. In defiance, she raises her fist to the sky and declares:

"...As God Is My Witness, I'll Never Go Hungry Again!..."

Well, as a child, I adored that movie, and quoted it often. I especially liked the "carrot scene" and adapted it to whatever I was into at the time. When I lived in Florida, I was so glad for the lovely climate that I declared:

AS GOD IS MY WITNESS, I'LL NEVER SHOVEL SNOW AGAIN! HA HA HA!"

Life's circumstances brought me to Mobile Home in Massachusetts, and I spend every winter shoveling snow. In my attempts at humor, I had been taking the Lord's Name in vain. NOT WISE.

Yesterday, while doing my Image Search for this Devotional Thread, I came across a very interesting one concerning "curses". Earlier in our readings, we saw how good Rebecca was a "Overcoming Objections" to her scheme. When Jacob expressed the objection that deceiving his father might put him under a curse, Rebecca replied "Let the curse fall on me." Such dangerous words! And yet, in our own idiomatic language, we have many such declarations which pepper our speech daily. How many times have you heard the following expressions:

"May God Strike me Dead if I'm Telling You a Lie"

I Swear to God, it's TRUE!

"As God is my Witness, I'll never go hungry again!"

And so on. You get the picture.

The Ten Commandments had not yet been given to Moses at the time of Rebecca's scheme, but the Natural Laws of "Cause and Effect", and "Sowing and Reaping", were still in effect, even without the Torah. Knowing Right from Wrong, even with slight cultural differences, is something built-in for Humans (See Romans 1). Rebecca, by calling down a curse upon herself, had set in motion a chain of events that would lead her to great sorrow.

First, Esau, in his resentment, took two brides from an enemy tribe, who didn't get along with their Mother-In-Law (Rebecca) at all. In fact, the Bible says that the two women caused no end of heartache for Isaac and Rebecca. Sometimes, Daughters-In-Law can be a curse, and, in this case, there were TWO of them and they were SISTERS.

The second part of the curse is even worse. Because of Rebecca's scheme, her twin sons were now bitter enemies. Jacob has to leave town and will be gone over twenty years. Her husband Isaac is dying, and soon she will be a widow, and have to move in with Esau and his two "Brides-From-Hell". And, tragically, she will never see Jacob again. It is assumed that she died before Jabob's return and reconciliation with Esau.

Esau, too, is still trying to "earn" his Mother's love. Seeing that Jacob is fleeing to find a bride from his own tribe, Esau marries a daughter of Ishmael JUST so that he can "one-up" his younger brother. Instead of solving problems, I can only imagine that it made the domestic situation even WORSE.

Be careful in speech and intentions. God gave us His Commandments for a REASON.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 71

1 In you, O Lord, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me;
incline your ear to me and save me.
3 Be to me a rock of refuge,
a strong fortress,* to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.

4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of the unjust and cruel.
5 For you, O Lord, are my hope,
my trust, O Lord, from my youth.
6 Upon you I have leaned from my birth;
it was you who took me from my mother’s womb.
My praise is continually of you.

7 I have been like a portent to many,
but you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
and with your glory all day long.
9 Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
do not forsake me when my strength is spent.
10 For my enemies speak concerning me,
and those who watch for my life consult together.
11 They say, ‘Pursue and seize that person
whom God has forsaken,
for there is no one to deliver.’

12 O God, do not be far from me;
O my God, make haste to help me!
13 Let my accusers be put to shame and consumed;
let those who seek to hurt me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.
14 But I will hope continually,
and will praise you yet more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all day long,
though their number is past my knowledge.
16 I will come praising the mighty deeds of the Lord God,
I will praise your righteousness, yours alone.

17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
18 So even to old age and grey hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might
to all the generations to come.*
Your power 19and your righteousness, O God,
reach the high heavens.

You who have done great things,
O God, who is like you?
20 You who have made me see many troubles and calamities
will revive me again;
from the depths of the earth
you will bring me up again.
21 You will increase my honour,
and comfort me once again.

22 I will also praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have rescued.
24 All day long my tongue will talk of your righteous help,
for those who tried to do me harm
have been put to shame, and disgraced.
