Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Genesis 21

The Treaty at Beersheba

22 At that time Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything you do. 23 Now swear to me here before God that you will not deal falsely with me or my children or my descendants. Show to me and the country where you now reside as a foreigner the same kindness I have shown to you.”

24 Abraham said, “I swear it.”

25 Then Abraham complained to Abimelek about a well of water that Abimelek’s servants had seized. 26 But Abimelek said, “I don’t know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today.”

27 So Abraham brought sheep and cattle and gave them to Abimelek, and the two men made a treaty. 28 Abraham set apart seven ewe lambs from the flock, 29 and Abimelek asked Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs you have set apart by themselves?”

30 He replied, “Accept these seven lambs from my hand as a witness that I dug this well.”

31 So that place was called Beersheba,[d] because the two men swore an oath there.

32 After the treaty had been made at Beersheba, Abimelek and Phicol the commander of his forces returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Eternal God. 34 And Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines for a long time.

Footnotes

a Genesis 21:3 Isaac means he laughs.
b Genesis 21:12 Or seed
c Genesis 21:16 Hebrew; Septuagint the child
d Genesis 21:31 Beersheba can mean well of seven and well of the oath.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Blessed and Glorious Is Your Most Holy and Wonderful Name!
We Come Into Your Presence With Singing
and Into Your Courts With Praise.
For Your Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are the True God of Abraham!
How We Want To Love You and Serve You with Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Soul,
Our Whole Mind,
And Our Whole Strength!
Let Your Holy Word Be Written Deep Upon Our Hearts,
Bound upon Our Right Hands,
And as a Frontlet Between Our Eyes!
Let Your Promises in Your Word never Depart from Us,
Oh Father, for even when we murmur and are unfaithful,
YOU ARE FOREVER FAITHFUL.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Don't you sometimes wish you could own your own private island, preferably in the tropics, with plenty of fresh water? There is even a TV show about this, as PWM (People With Money) are squired around several island properties, and eventually makes their choice, plopping down a couple of million dollars for the privilege.

It makes for good entertainment, but as we have seen from recent events, a "Private Island" can become a place of enslavement and wickedness. Unfortunately, PWM can sometimes use their isolation to shield themselves from prosecution for serious crimes. There is a sense of entitlement that comes with the ability to buy whatever one wants, whenever one wants.

However, as recent events have also shown, sin and debauchery eventully catch up with the perpetrators, even if they have their own Private Island.

Of Course, the Number One reason most PWM eventually sell their Private Island is not as dramatic as the Epstein Case. The reason is Loneliness!

Most of us are PWNM (People With NO Money) and so we have neighbors. In a Civilized Society, we have to endure neighbors who disagree with us politically, religiouly, socially, and even morally, just as long as they stay on their side of the fence.

In my own Mobile Home Park, we are not allowed fences as a part of our lease, and most of our designated lot is on one side of the Mobile Home. The other side has a three-foot easement for utility access and fire safety. Even without fences, we know where our lot lines begin and end, but most people cut the grass and even cultivate flowers on the neighbor's 3-Foot Easement.

Ninety-Nine Percent of the neighbors respect the lot lines and make their own lot a lovely garden My sister has a Japanese Garden, I have an English Herb Garden, and another neighbor has a little oasis of tropical plants that have to be replaced every Spring because they can't stand the New England Winters.

There is one guy, however, who has surreptitiously extended his "boundary" beyond the three-foot easement to include THREE full-size lots that he doesn't pay rent for. Because he cuts the grass on those three lots, he has decided that they are his. He has even installed surveillance cameras, trained upon "his property".

I had no idea he had done this and I walked Tippy there every night as I was trying to re-housetrain her. Little did I know that the guy was videotaping me and seething that I would allow Tippy to pee on "his" grass. And so, one evening he came out on the porch screaming at me and using such vile insults that, if I were a liberal, I would have charged him with a Hate Crime. (not my style, but anyway) I said "Peace" to him and that made him even madder. Everybody in the neighborhood heard what he called me, which, in Massachusetts is ILLEGAL to call a woman. (That's Massachusetts for you!).

Several neighbors, who are more gentlemanly, confronted the guy and chastised him for his behavior. Rather than correcting the situation, it escalated. I immdiately called the Property Manager and the local Police to appraise them of the situation.

Everybody I have spoken to says I didn't do anything wrong, and the grassy area is "Common Property". Some of the people in the neighborhood have offered to escort me as I walk Tippy. I decided against antagonizing the guy any further, and changed my route. I now walk a half mile up the highway to a huge restaurant parking lot where I train Tippy to Heel, Stop, Sit, Stay, and Wait. She is doing very well and looks forward to her training sessions. And I made a commitment to pray for the neighbor, that he be delivered from any demons that oppress him, that he be healed of any mental illness that causes his antisocial behavior, that he be comforted from any childhood trauma that makes him hate women, and that he repent and be saved, in Jesus Name. I believe God can do this, and, although it may seem like a self-serving prayer, it is not an easy one to pray and I find myself gritting my teeth every time I pray it!

Anyway, today's Passage from Genesis concerns neighbors, the desert, a well, and a boundary dispute. I have been to Beersheba and it is a desert for miles and miles around it. The Well wasn't just three extra Mobile Home Lots, it was LIFE itself. Abraham dug the well, which was a LOT of work. His neighbors, who were pagans, made a covenant with Abraham, recognizing that the well belonged to him. The well is there to this day, and my illustrations will show you what it looks like.

Neighbors come and go, but the Well of Living Water is forever.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 25

Of David.

1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.

6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

11 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who are they that fear the Lord?
He will teach them the way that they should choose.

13 They will abide in prosperity,
and their children shall possess the land.
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever towards the Lord,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart,
and bring me* out of my distress.
18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20 O guard my life, and deliver me;
do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.

22 Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all its troubles.
