Moscow, May 22, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church has been perplexed to learn about Pope Francis' audience with Pussy Riot producer and publisher of Mediazona (designated as a foreign-agent media outlet by the Russian Justice Ministry) Pyotr Verzilov (designated as a foreign-agent media outlet in Russia), and doubts whether the Pontiff was aware of what kind of person he faced.
"I am certainly not sure that Pope Francis was told who Mr. Verzilov is and was told the entire background of his deeds," head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion said during the Church and World program on the Rossiya-24 television channel.
He emphasized that along with the protest organized by Pussy Riot in the Christ the Savior Cathedral, with the direct participation and assistance of Verzilov, various other actions of indecent content were also organized.
"I doubt that those people who organized this meeting, either in the Vatican's State Department or in the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity (I do not know who organized this meeting), so I doubt that they informed the Pope what kind of person would appear in the picture with him," Metropolitan Hilarion said, adding that Verzilov's audience with the Pope caused "a very great temptation."
For this reason, the metropolitan sent a letter to the apostolic nuncio in Russia explaining "what kind of people they are."
In conclusion, the Russian Orthodox Church representative said he wanted "those who prepare meetings of Pope Francis to be more careful about who he might appear with in a common photo."
Francis was the final straw in my leaving the Latin Church.

To paraphrase what Marco Rubio once said about Obama, we need to get past this idea that Bergoglio doesn’t know what he’s doing. He knows exactly what’s doing.
Bergoglio is not the Church, and he will be gone soon.
Even though I already have a low opinion of Bergoglio, I was surprised by this meeting. You can chalk it up either to malice or to naïveté, and while I’d like it to be the latter, I’m afraid it’s not.
I think he knew perfectly well who he was meeting with and what they represented.
